I don't understand that Angela's person beef with marriagetoxin. Marriagetoxin is published in shonen jump magazine, a very conservative magazine full of censorship. I'm sure kinosaki is always dressed in feminine clothing and has small plausible deniability so that higher-ups in shonen jump won't complain and let allow author to make them canon
hmmm agree and disagree. i think kinosaki being like this definitely makes it more likely that gerosaki will end up canon because it DOES make it more palatable to the general audience, but i do also think they could get away with showing him in masculine dress a few more times. jump+'s other manga with m/m endings did so. but i don't think that says anything about kinosaki since his entire presence has been this one job (where he has given his reasons for dressing that way during it), that's just me trying to send joumyakun telepathic messages to do it at least one more time!!
Look I wanna agree with you about the dub changes but nah Crunchyroll dub tryna be sneaky, they’ve been caught doing this before. “Feel like a new man” and “I don’t look like any man you’ve seen before?” also allow just enough wiggle room, one’s a figure of speech and the others a question, not definitive phrases like “I’m a guy” or “I’m a man”. Mind you I like the “marriage advisor” change in the sub given the context. Kinosaki literally says “okoto” in the JPN audio. If this was 1998 they’d be seen as the same but it’s 2026, they chose “I’m not a girl” instead of “I’m a guy” deliberately. Reactionary idiots are reactionary idiots but if anyone’s gonna actually mess with the series you love, well, exhibit A
i think people should relax about 1 line from the single first episode.
also i'm at work now and can't double check but i did see some mentions that it could have been a matter of lining up to mouth movements (and again i can't confirm myself rn but just imagine length of sentences i can see that making sense)
ultimately this is just the dub. i don't think one vague line in the dub (again in the very first episode) overrules the subtitled anime and officially translated manga being very clear.
again it's only the first episode and i think people should wait for something more than something that COULD POSSIBLY MAYBE BE ARGUED IN BAD FAITH (which people were doing w the manga before to cope, anyway!) before starting the culture war lol
(but also glad to see some other people DO understand why the marriage advisor line change is good! which happened in the sub.)
Do you think Teruaki will scare off some anime-only fans
In episode 1 of the dub Kinosaki says “I’m not a girl” instead of “Im a guy”. Do you think this materially means anything or just saying the same thing? Especially given gender not being a binary
i think it's just saying the same thing. "i'm not a girl" makes sense as a reply to gero in that context, and later after the bath he refers to himself as a man twice. speaking of i'm pretty pleased with the dub from what i saw! i still am a subs-only girl but it's one of the better dubs i've heard recently.
Given we’re close to wrapping up the current arc, where do you think we’re at % wise in the story?
Gerosaki is def endgame but what’s the over / under on Kinosaki making it out alive by the end of it? I know ppl are fearing “Kinosaki was actually cis woman all along!” but second to that is whether all the death flags will come to fruition (also hard to tell cause idk if we’re at the halfway point of the manga or like almost at the final arc)
oh i genuinely have no fear of kinosaki dying. i mean yes there are death flags but those are pretty much all things kinosaki has said. all we actually know is that kinosaki views his time as limited. we don't know why.
also marriagetoxin is an action shounen but it's also supernatural and a romcom. the endgame love interest dying (permanently) does not fit with that. death flags don't mean permanent death even in manga that's strictly battle shounen either. so his life surely IS at risk in some way but there will be some way to get around/fix it. 🙂↕️😊
Do you have any brocon bl recs? Specifically with a younger brother seme ^_^
i only have ones i have already put on my reclist, so if you've already gone through those sorry for repeating! but here:
i didnt realize there were so many ppl who think marriagetoxin will end with gero following his clan’s wishes 😭
hhsm literally proves that wrong even though it’s a prequel oneshot that centers around piichi and marin. at the end marin literally rejects her abusive mom’s beliefs and tells her that shes going to build a life together with piichi
I KNOW 😭😭
honestly i haven't read hhsm but maybe i should! but seriously, pretty much every time some kind of family unit shows up in marriagetoxin, the point is about how the clan's customs have hurt children and/or bending or bucking tradition and defining family it for yourself... and somehow we're supposed to believe the "endgame" is going to do the opposite and fit cleanly into what the clan demands about marrying a woman to produce offspring.... sure.
So has Kinosaki been working with the Poison Clan / Doll user / someone else from the very beginning with the goal of getting Gero to win over the various women the clan set him up to meet? I just caught up to the manga but feel like I missed something as to why Kinosaki asked Tonako for help and then doubled crossed her
MARRIAGETOXIN MANGA SPOILERS
you're not missing anything really! we don't know the full extent yet. here's what we know:
hopefully we start getting more answers to these soon!!
Wanted to get your take on this Twitter thread. As someone who is in the “Kinosaki is a gnc man” camp, it does make a somewhat compelling argument that if that isn’t the endgame, then a non-binary / trans reading of the character would be the most likely outcome (some assumptions are made that I don’t necessarily agree with but if true then the outcome would make sense) https://x.com/Syegle/status/2042311841024454846
op's premise makes no sense to me. he was forced to say "i'm a man" to remove himself from consideration... but if kinosaki is mtf or (amab) nb but open about being a woman, he still wouldn't be considered a marriage candidate by doll user???? so what is actually the point lol.
and it's not like kinosaki says it just once. he repeatedly very casually says he's a guy. there are no hints in his expressions that it's uncomfortable for him to say for any reason.
also op seems to be forgetting a MAJOR factor wrt to "his one chance" and assuming it means bc of his identity and not... you know.
obviously people can interpret and theorize! but i just don't see the basis for it becoming canon.
