For me it definitely comes from reading a lot and having genuine love and passion for writing. Reading books (and fics!!) help you broaden your vocabulary and discover new styles of writing. Before I started writing fics I used to read any book I could get my hands on and I journaled and wrote poetry often. It wasn’t that good but practice does make perfect, and since getting more into fanfiction, participating in fan events, writing for prompts, and getting some sweet friends to beta read a few works, I believe this is what made me better at writing. This might sound silly, but I think something that helped me a lot was going back to read my favourite fics and studying them; as in rereading parts that made me emotional and asking why they affected me so, rereading chapters and paying attention to characters’s thought process and stream of consciousness, paying attention to how things were described, what did the author highlight, etc. Focus on how much an author focuses on a high stakes scene and in contrast how they handle calmer scenes and how they use them to transition scenes. Note how they treat the characters, when writing you must remember to make characters different, unique, and far from perfect. Symbolism and foreshadowing are very nice and overlooked aspects in writing as well.

That’s for writing in general, but for smut!! Smut is sometimes awkward to write, you must embrace the awkwardness and embarrassment to write it. You will use gross funny words, you will describe things that do not feel sexy at all in real life, but that’s okay, that’s the point. The most important point in smut for me is how erotic you can make it. A balance of emotion and action, and emotions must include a degree of self awareness in characters, a level of embarrassment, insecurity, it makes smut feel more real and the sex scenes erotic. Describing things as they are happening is what makes smut boring, describing how they feel, what reactions it causes is how it makes it exciting. Think of it as if you’re writing from the POV of an extremely self conscious character (how the air feels around them, the goosebumps on their skin, the sensitivity, the subtle shame, the shyness) take every sensation and double it.

The actual physical act of sex is rarely the hottest part of a fic, the heat comes from what the act means to the characters; the forbidden, vulnerability, power dynamics, consequences.

There will always be trail in error when writing, a lack of balance between descriptions, emotions, and dialogue, and finding that medium requires you to write and be brave enough to share it. Also!! Don’t shy away from reading classical literature and poetry (a little plus, look into literary theory (; helps a lot with perspective and style) and reading good bdsm fics does WONDERS.

These are my own thoughts and methods when it comes to writing! I hope they help you in any way sweets, don’t feel discouraged and continue writing, your style shouldn’t be a copy of anyone else’s or be similar to another writer to be considered good, don’t be scared to try again and again till you’re happy with your writing, practice makes perfect and always write from a place of passion and pervertedness <3

He’d be pleasantly surprised by how little things have such an affect on Yuuji, how the minimal effort he puts in for him is deeply appreciated by the boy that he’d find himself back in his old skin, giving and giving until he overflows another cup, putting Yuuji so high up, sacrificing himself to give Yuuji a better life, give him the love he so craves, but instead of being met with the same disappointment of his lover leaving him cus he isn’t enough, this time he fell in love with someone who would sacrifice themselves to save the world :( Yuuji loves so deeply he’d give up his life if it meant the world would be a safer place. But satoru is just met with another partner that left him… just a constant curse, so maybe this time he’ll sacrifice himself first, leave first so it would hurt less….wtf did you make me write and think about anon sobs
