hihi how can i drop out? your dms are closed to me 😢
Hi! We're sorry to hear you'll need to drop out!
We checked our dm settings and they should allow you to send a dm ~ if it's not working, please feel free to reply to the check-in email or submit the check-in form if you have not already, as there's a spot on the form to notify us of dropouts.
Hello! Hope all is well. Just wondering when submissions will open or when the collection will be available on ao3.
Hello! Apologies for not seeing this earlier ~ we will send all submission info out with the next check in on October 1! If you're ready to submit, you can respond to the first check in email and we can send over the information on how to submit to the collection.
Hi! Just curious what the check ins entail. TY!
Hello ~ Check ins are just a quick form to see how everything is going! You don't need to submit word counts or any part of your fic — this just helps us plan ahead for reveals and also see how we can best support you all 🙂↕️
is it still possible to participate? Claiming a prompt or self prompting
Hello! Yes, it's definitely still possible to participate. Claiming and self-prompting will end on October 1st - the date of our last check-in. We hope to see you participate!
hello! will there be an off-season in the future with the same prompts available? the one prompt i was interested in was claimed and id love to give it a try in the future. thank you!! :)
Hello! We will definitely be doing an off-season, however it will only be for unclaimed prompts. Prompts that were claimed and completed during the fest will not be available for writing out of respect for the writer who claimed the fic.
Hello! First, thanks hosting a super cool fest! Could you explain how submissions will work? When will we be able to submit our fics and how will we do so?
Of course! We will be sharing all the instructions on how to submit during a later check-in; however, if you happen to finish your fic early and want to submit it so that you can have it done and off your plate or so that you can claim another prompt, we can share the instructions sooner via email or dm - just reach out through twitter or by replying to your claim email!
Submissions will be done through an anonymous AO3 collection with an anon period before we do author reveals.
Hello! I was wondering if we could work with genderbends, be it only one of the parts or all parts, like fem!Chan x Changbin or fem!minsung for example. Thanks for your time!!
Hi! Yes - that is totally fine, as long as it's not in the "No's" of your prompt. Otherwise, feel free to change how you'd like!
hi! can we post wips of our prompts?
Hi there! You're more than welcome to post WIPs, please just keep in mind that we do have an anon period before author reveals where all submissions will be posted without author info.
what would make something gothic? and if a fic was written and it didnt turn out very on theme would happen? on accident for the most part
hi! if you’ve missed it, we have a tweet explaining the genre a bit, as well as other forms of gothic media for a more visual understanding here: https://x.com/i/status/2034736432087023757
i think there’s so many works within the genre that sometimes it can be a bit challenging to define them beneath one umbrella. however, while everyone has their own opinions on what defines something as gothic, i feel as though the genre often relies heavily on its sense of place and it’s threat of the supernatural/the feeling of mystery and or suspense. an atmospheric location where its setting can almost become a character in itself, Dracula’s castle (Bram Stoker) or the mansion in The Yellow Wallpaper (Charlotte Perkins Gilman), for example. even Frankenstein (Mary Shelley), while set in various locations, allows the reader to get a true feel and understanding of each location.
the yellow wallpaper is also a good example for the feeling of mystery or suspense, as well as the threat of the supernatural. events or feelings that may feel impossible to consider or pin down, haunting or unnerving. and the supernatural, while often taken in its literal sense, has also been used almost metaphorically. left to be ambiguous or psychological, Rebecca (Daphne Du Maurier) can be used as an example of ghosts, the supernatural, haunting the storyline, without them actually being present.
i hope this helps even a little bit, and you’re more than welcome to ask any more questions you may have! gothic is a very interesting genre that i really recommend diving into.
regarding your concerns about not being on theme, both mods are happy to read over your (or anyone's) claim to provide feedback on if it fits the theme of the fest. we do feel that as long as you use your claim as a guide, you shouldn't have too many issues with staying on track! you can also always message us here or through dms with questions 🤍
haii! just saw your post about claims being sent out, i havent recieved an email, i sent mine a few hours ago
Hello! Would you be able to share your username or email that you used to submit your claim so we can check to see if we've received it? You can also resubmit your claim here and let us know so we can check that we've received it: https://forms.gle/DWLiWL8gL2by7WUt8
You're also welcome to email us directly if you don't have twitter so we can investigate further: gothicfests@gmail.com
