Years ago, when I was properly getting into fandom, I got depressed seeing how much it has changed for the worse. Eventually, I learned that no matter how many people fight it or give valid proof/argument, people— "antis"— don't listen. So I had to take a break and realized all I can do is ignore them. If I see something horrible, block. And then I immediately ignore it, erase it from my memory and move on to something else. I know it can be disheartening to think like that but personally, it's made an impact on my mental health, for the positive. Please don't strain yourself when it comes to stupid people. Posts like "minor x minor" are a post a dozen. But then i remember what else is posted— artists who share their passion, their works, their time, their efforts— writers who do the same, people of the shares community gabbing and having fun over their interests. I'm sorry if this is irrelevant, jic I thought it might help. To summarize, what I do for myself is focus my energy on the people who deserve it, not the idiots who can't think for themselves. No, it's not irrelevant at all, and it's absolutely helped! Thank you so much, anon. I needed this reminder. I think since I've been off work for the summer, the lack of structure has led my already deteriorating mental health to take an even bigger dip—and that's caused unhealthy behaviours like doomscrolling and bickering on Twitter, which of course only makes things even worse 😓
While I don't want to stop writing my analytical threads, I'm going to try to remember that I can do that without subjecting myself to conversations with people who fundamentally don't respect me.
