The languages of Revospring

Revospring has always been a global place, but we were curious just how global. So we took a look at 90,000 recent questions and answers and ran them through language detection to see what people are actually writing in — and, it turns out, when they're writing it.

Here's what we found.

English leads, but most of the site isn't in English

English is the single most common language at a little under 38%. But add everything else up and the majority of Revospring is in another language entirely.

The two biggest are Tagalog and Indonesian. Together they're a bigger slice than English — more than a third of everything posted. After that come Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, and a long tail of dozens more, from German and Italian to Vietnamese and Swahili.

The site follows the sun

The languages tell you where people are. The clock tells you when they're around — and every language keeps its own hours.

If you line up each language against the time of day, they don't overlap so much as take turns. Tagalog and Indonesian rise together and peak in the early-to-mid afternoon UTC, which is evening in the Philippines and Indonesia. Spanish and Portuguese do the opposite: they quiet down while Southeast Asia is busiest, then climb through the late-night UTC hours — evening across the Americas and Iberia. Arabic and Turkish sit in between, peaking in their own evening a few hours ahead.

The nice thing about this is that Revospring never really goes quiet. When one side of the world is winding down, another is just getting started. Post a question before bed and there's a good chance someone halfway around the planet is wide awake to answer it.

Keep writing in whatever language feels like home

None of this is by design on our part — it's just who showed up. People brought their own languages, and the site is better for it. Whatever you write in, you're in good company, and someone out there speaks it too.

We'd love to lean into this rather than just watch it happen. We want to work more closely with you to make Revospring feel like home in more languages — better translations, and support for the things we don't handle well yet, like right-to-left writing for Arabic and the other languages that read that way.
