I've been knee-deep in American culture via the internet since I was 14, I made so many American friends and kept seeing American news all over my timeline, I guess it just kinda became part of my life to care about it the same way I would local news. Because I wanted to have a bigger audience, I've always written my comics in English, and ultimately, when making new OCs, I figured it made more sense to put them in America!

When I got thinking about Cy and Lynn, I knew I wanted them to live somewhere cold, not a typical "main character" place, and if possible a purple state. Minnesota kinda made itself the obvious choice at that point!

With the knowledge I had already accumulated through the years, a good deal of research, and the godsent help that was my Minnesotan friends, I managed to get a pretty good grasp on what I wanted to go for!

It was particularly helpful when writing certain (yet unpublished!) fics that center more on Lynn's early life as an Asian woman who grew up in a small Minnesota town, with all the isolation and bigotry that entails. I can't possibly know how that specific setting can impact one, but I can guess and research, so I was really reassured to have so many friends go "oh god, no, it really is like that."
