i’ve heard ever since 2015/2016 (when #that man first got voted into office) more and more latinos have started to immigrate to canada instead of the us like the us is still the top destination especially miami, florida but a shifted towards also immigrating to canada has started since they feel more safe and welcomed

are there a lot of latinos in canada? i’m asking because i know they usually immigrate to the us especially states like florida, california, texas, and new york but lately i feel like i’ve seen a lot of latin american flags + the canadian flag on here and on instagram (especially venezuelans and colombians)

you don't have to respond to this since nosy people might see. and. not to start anything but lowkey the cb thing in kpop or bts space isn't really new to me and i already calmed down about it because it happened with someone else before and made me stop projecting too much about the situation. ailee was criticized by american/english speaking asian kpop fans because she posted a selfie with cb on ig before. she defended herself saying she was just happy to meet someone whose music she enjoyed when she was younger since his r&b music were quite popular in asia too before. she proceeded to backtrack and said it was not her intention to support him or his actions against women. then cb proceeded to call her a cornball after backtracking anyway. that situation and back then, seeing bts, blackpink and numerous kpop idols still playing or dancing to his music at the same time that happened made me realize it would be a similar situation if it was them taking a pic with cb. and.... yeaaaaa welp. here we all are with that same cycle but in a much bigger bolder font bc it's bts.
and isn't that's what's killing me. kpop groups have been openly fanning out to that degenerate for over a decade. kpop stans were just waiting for bts to slip up from their clean image. ch. 2 opened the doors to bts shedding the kpop image and that's where everything went to hell bc they stopped gaf and showed more of their individual selves. funniest part is a bunch of idols/groups have continued to post/cover his music, sample his songs and attend his concert not that long ago and it was crickets. now stans are covering it up since armys went digging to call out their hypocrisy. they can't win bc there's no logic or equality when it comes to them. they'll dehumanize them no matter what they do but it's x10 worse now that they're showing more of who they are behind the crafted idol image. idiot armys wanting to "hold them accountable" is why the hate train has escalated to this level. they fell right into antis trap bc bts always had armys to protect them. the boycott rly caused serious damage and divided the fanbase. now they move just like antis constantly shading them and saying the most vile shit.
mind you, 99% of kpop groups are either made up of the worst people, associated with scum of the earth or have done horrible shit without consequence and no one gaf. they love to call armys evil but if armys gave even half of kpop stans energy and were all up in their business...

i think it’s also because of what both countries are known for like when people think of the us they think of red, white, and blue and all the patriotic stuff over there meanwhile when they think of canada they think of stuff like how it’s a melting pot (not saying the us isn’t but you get what i mean) and bilingual and just welcoming in general

my bff was born in canada (pickering to be exact) and her parents are from greece and she said there’s a decent amount of greeks in canada specifically ontario so when she lived there her and her culture were obviously welcomed and when she moved here to our city which actually has the biggest greek diaspora in the us she was still looked at weird for speaking greek by non-greeks 😭 so you’re right in canada you’re embraced here you’re pushed away unless someone is part of your culture too
the europeans here are 1st/2nd gen immigrants so they have accents or they were born here and fluent. a big difference is we identify by ethnicity due to more recent immigration while americans identify by race/nationality (for obvious reasons). we have a lot of faults but canadians embrace the melting pot and they're proud to be canadian. you can have both

i keep forgetting to send this but this is just an acute observation but i feel like children of immigrants in toronto or more so the GTA seem much more fluent than children of immigrants in the US (unless of course they grew up in an area with their diaspora like children of latino immigrants who grew up in miami to tend to be fluent in spanish especially since spanish i spoke just as much as english in miami) and on top of that a lot are also decently fluent in french and i wonder if it’s because toronto and the GTA as a whole is very diverse (i know toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world and one of my mutuals says it’s a true immigrant city where you meet people from everywhere) so it’s not acceptable? compared to the us where it’s only seen as acceptable i guess in cities with large diasporas
it's common for people here to speak/understand at least one other language bc a lot of us are children of immigrants. i don't speak my language fluently but i can speak basic sentences and understand it perfectly bc my parents spoke it and i grew up in my community. we're not forced to assimilate and all cultures are celebrated and embraced compared to the u.s. it's completely normal to hear foreign languages just as much as i hear english in public but i don't rly meet french speakers unless they're from french-speaking african countries or moved from quebec. there's always a cultural festival celebrating diversity and communities for all to enjoy and you can find a restaurant serving amazing traditional food from all over the world. i always recommend people visit in the summer. there's so much to do, the food is amazing and you'll have a time!
in the u.s, i feel like you're forced to be a proud patriot and america down 24/7 like your culture is beaten out of you and you're shamed into putting america first which is so sad. at best, it's tolerated to a point :/

no wait that wasn’t shade 😭 i wish it was like that here especially no SAT/ACT because i did good on them but good lord 😭 you can’t really study for them because it’s not on set material it pretty much just tests your testing taking ability (the timing sucks though like on the ACT they say you should even spend a minute on a question like oh ok sure)

yeah it looks like you guys do 😭 i also know you guys don’t have anything like the SAT/ACT to get into college and just have standardized tests in i believe grade 3, grade 9, and grade 10(?) like the literacy test
extracurriculars aren’t technically required REQUIRED though like for example i only had national honor society as an extracurricular and i still got into my dream school but i think all my honors, APs, and dual enrollment classes + high gpa helped because the colleges saw it as me focusing on school more than extracurriculars which isn’t bad
this shade. course work, tests/essays and final exams at the end of the semester determine your grade and post secondary acceptance. the standardized test is called eqao but it only tests reading/writing/math levels in grade 3, 6 and 9. it has no influence on your average/going to the next grade
wow that’s a lot. high school is damn near university and your transcript is a resume… i was an above average student and was accepted to all the major schools lol. ig tuition is much cheaper here bc its easier to get into

i would consider those electives! by extracurriculars i mean stuff like sports, theater, chorus, band, yearbook, DECA, coding club, etc.
oh yeah i don't think that had any influence on grades/educational opportunities except maybe sports (scholarship). we didn't have that many clubs but they were just for fun and they got special perks when they had events to prepare/attend. ig you guys kind of see it as volunteering which we also had to complete in order to graduate. we kind of have it easy

not to contribute to the canada q&a but is it true in canada extracurriculars in high school aren’t seen the same way they are in the us in high school? i remember seeing a tweet in passing that said extracurriculars are more of just a fun thing you can do if you want but they’re not really required for university because they don’t look at that stuff they just look at your grade 12 U/M(?) grades?
same with AP/dual enrollment i heard you guys don’t really have that or that it depends on the school/provinces?
by extracurriculars, do you mean joining sports teams/clubs or taking classes like italian, french, spanish, drama class, art, etc? if so, it's to fill up your credit requirements beyond the compulsory credits (eng/math/sci/french/gym) up to a certain grade. some elective classes i took were writers craft, digital art, media studies, world religion, sociology/psychology/anthropology bc they were easy, interesting and boosted my average.
they look mostly look at gr. 11/12 marks but take in your overall average and gr. 9/10 records for uni/college acceptance. this is for ontario catholic schools so idk if public schools/other provinces are different. u.s school requirements and your grading system are stricter :/
