You mentioned self teaching, what were those languages you tried? Have you ever tried any language from the eastern part of Europe? (Including slavic or balkanic)
the most recent i've tried to learn more about, using various online resources, is mandarin chinese, but i don't have time to fully commit to it, so i'm not actively learning it... then obviously, i did self study japaneese and korean a lot too... then there is german (i don't remember a lot, did study in primary school too... but only self studies after). most i dont even wanna mention because i barely remember anything now... 😆
as for slavic and balkanic i tried croatian at one point (for travelling)... i remember dobro(good), dobro jutro(good morning) and hvala(thank you).

i love ellipsus writing journey feature and themes. in gdocs i just saw my word count lower or increase, and could either have light or dark mode... and now i can get some fun stats showing my word count progress and time spent writing. even lots of fun themes to set the mood for what i'm writing.

i know two languages fluently, but i'm practically bye-lingual with how i'm struggling with both swedish and english. 😆
i studied korean for a while, so i'd say i know enough to understand basic conversations (reading and listening), struggling a bit too much with writing and speaking there to really call myself fluent. i also studied japaneese for a while, but didn't engage with enough content to really absorb it... i love languages and would say i have it pretty easy to spot patterns and learn things if i'm interested in it. i picked up a lot of chinese expressions and words from revenged love, its chinese fanbase, and the subtitle work i've done for it, but never studied it.

I'm secretly jelouse of everyone that writes chengwei fics. I never manage to get their dynamic right, they end up being too soft and seeing all those people managing to characterize them quite good blows my mind.

it blows my mind too! i love stumbling on works that really match my own vision of them—makes if feel like they walked into the fic straight from the show or novel.
the thing i really love so much about these characters, is that they're so versitile. they can be written both soft/fluffy/light or harsh/dark/evil and it still works out somehow. and sure, sometimes we can stray quite far "out of character", with dynamics thrown out the window... but at the end of the day, we're all just having fun here, exploring and experimenting, so who really cares if it's "perfect"?
i understand that it's easy to compare your characterizations with others, i struggle with that too sometimes when i feel like something is "missing". but maybe it might be worth trying to identify why you think they are "too soft" in your story? and see if you can make any changes in your story to make them less so, if thats what you want.
idk if i'm helping at all, or if i'm just reading into it too much—but those were my thoughts when reading your message.
i feel like fanfic authors all have their own unique flair and take on them too. and best is to just focus on what you want to write and how you want to write them, to find your own voice and take on them. 💛
