hey! first of all thank you for organising all this!
i'm interested as a beta reader, and i find it quite difficult to have an overview over which requests are still open and which are not. after some scrolling through your page, i found that you have a page for this, which is really cool! but as a suggestion: maybe make this a bit more obvious in your "information" thread because it's really hidden there (i found it only after i knew of its existence)
and on this note: is this always up-to-date? or how do i, as a beta reader, know which requests are still open?

Hi! Thanks so much for the suggestion, we are going to try do a little rearranging to make things clearer!
We try to keep the site as up to date as possible. As soon as a writer has found their beta, we remove it from the site. Unfortunately, it can sometimes take a while for us to connect a writer with a beta, so that could be why a request is still showing as open.

Ive participated in a couple of fests and would love to have a beta Reader to help give a rounded finish to my fics.
1. how do I like choose a beta Reader
2. if I do choose one will that same person be assisting me on all my fics ?

So first thing is you need to make a request via our google form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdEScZ_WXnrYwLiah21f27uYbVDt5VGXnyO-RJ2pm8q0RrVjA/viewform. Once you have done that, we will make a graphic, and people will be able to submit an offer through the Beta Offer form.
Once you have received offers, we will DM you with the details, and then you will be able to decide whether or not to reach out to them via DMs.
No, choosing a beta will mean they will be betaing that fic specifically, but there is nothing stopping you from making an arrangement with them in the future!

Hey i have a question. I was wondering, since I've seen a few of the beta request where the fic has really interested me and I would love to read it at some point, if there is any plan on promoting the fics that found a beta through you guys or something like that. I was just curious if I somehow could find some of the fics thats all. Thanks for the work you guys do I'm sure i will use ur services at some point if i ever manage to get my fic writen further.

We have considered this and come up with potentially having a site that shows past beta requests, along with the link to their completed fic. This would only be done with the permission of the writer.
We are thinking of adding a new question to the beta request form asking if writers would be happy to share their fic once done. We will also put a poll up asking if previous writers would be interested in having their works added.

i was checking out the beta offer form and just wanted to double-check smtng about the last question—"anything you wish to share with the writer?" does a copy of the offer form get sent to the author? what should that text contain? should it be addressed directly to the author? sorry if this has been answered before!

We don't share the full form, but we do share the message if one is included. This would be where you could share your interest for betaing, if they are writing about a subject that particularly inspires or interests you. Or just an encouraging message to the writer in general. It can be anything you wish to share with them to help them understand you as a beta.
That being said, you don’t have to include anything if you don’t want to.

would you guys ever consider opening a discord server if it had enough interest? i think it might be another good way for writers and betas to be connected since twitter isn't always super reliable with actually working right.

Apologies for the delay in responding, but mods have been busy with holidays and working to resolve this issue!
We will always quote the post when a beta is found, but in case that doesn’t work, we have created a site where all active requests can be viewed.
You can find this here: https://sites.google.com/view/skzbetareadersopenrequests/home. We will also add this to the beta offer form, so it is always easy to access.

I have to say having a beta is the best because I hold myself more accountable in actually finishing WIPs bc otherwise that stuff would stay in my drafts and never see the light of day
We agree! Betas have helped all of us mods as well. Encouraging each other to start writing to begin with, cheerleading to keep momentum on WIPs, creating friendships through helping each other, there are so many benefits if you can find the right beta-writer relationship.
