hello!! thank you for all the effort and love poured into this account, i'm rooting that it'll reach more skz writers!
i was checking out the beta offer form and just wanted to double-check smtng about the last question—"anything you wish to share with the writer?" does a copy of the offer form get sent to the author? what should that text contain? should it be addressed directly to the author? sorry if this has been answered before!
have a great day! ^^
Hi!
We don't share the full form, but we do share the message if one is included. This would be where you could share your interest for betaing, if they are writing about a subject that particularly inspires or interests you. Or just an encouraging message to the writer in general. It can be anything you wish to share with them to help them understand you as a beta.
That being said, you don’t have to include anything if you don’t want to.
I hope this helps to answer your question.
would you guys ever consider opening a discord server if it had enough interest? i think it might be another good way for writers and betas to be connected since twitter isn't always super reliable with actually working right.
Hi!
This is something we have definitely considered and will probably work on soon.
Thanks so much for the suggestion!
Hello, I just discovered your account and there are some fics that I'd like to beta for but is there a way to know if they've found a beta yet ? Thanks !
Hi!
Apologies for the delay in responding, but mods have been busy with holidays and working to resolve this issue!
We will always quote the post when a beta is found, but in case that doesn’t work, we have created a site where all active requests can be viewed.
You can find this here: https://sites.google.com/view/skzbetareadersopenrequests/home. We will also add this to the beta offer form, so it is always easy to access.
Thanks for your patience
I have to say having a beta is the best because I hold myself more accountable in actually finishing WIPs bc otherwise that stuff would stay in my drafts and never see the light of day
We agree! Betas have helped all of us mods as well. Encouraging each other to start writing to begin with, cheerleading to keep momentum on WIPs, creating friendships through helping each other, there are so many benefits if you can find the right beta-writer relationship.
Hi.. Uh.. Probably dumb.. But do you allow crossover works..? Like skz x a diff band? Just curious since your dn is specifically skz <3
Hi!
As long as a 5kz member is a part of the main ship, crossovers are fine.
hellooo can i ask if its ok to request a beta if the fic is for a fest?
Hi!
Yes! We even have an option on the form to indicate if it is for an anon fest as well.
Love the idea for the new beta reader form but I was wondering how authors will know about the responses? Will the forms related to an author’s request be sent to them?
Thank you! We were hoping it would be received well. Our intention is to update the writer with the interested betas' information so they can still reach out for the connection.
Since we have had some inquiries about a beta form and we know not everyone is comfortable reaching out publicly to offer help, we thought this would be a good way to bridge the gap. Plus we hope it will help with anon fest requests as well. Betas are still welcome to comment on the request post, but this just gives another avenue for people to offer their services.
Hey so I don't know if this is a valid concern to have since I am a very new writer, but what if a beta where to steal my work? Like how do i go about sharing my WIP with them and make sure that then don't just post it to AO3 or something themselves. This might be a dumb question and very mistrusting of me but people steal art all the time. So I thought I'd ask. Thank you for what you are doing and I think ill reach out as soon as my fic let's me.
Hi!
This is a very valid concern.
We understand it takes a lot of courage and trust to put your work in someone else's hands. We would hope that everyone offering to help would act with integrity rather than in this manner. Unfortunately, it is a small risk we take as writers.
There are always ways to prove your work is your own. For example, posting small wips on your page is one way to show that your work is yours. Writing programmes, such as Google Docs and Ellipsus, also have ways to show dates and time stamps, which can act as proof that the work is your own.
In general, if this is something that makes you uncomfortable, we would highly recommend talking to your beta to build rapport before sharing your work. It is important to find a beta you vibe well with.
Plus, should an issue like this arise, we would support the writer in showing when and that they requested the beta. Hopefully, this situation never happens, but we do understand and validate the concern.
We hope this eases your concerns, but feel free to reach out to us or send another message if you need further clarification.
Thanks!
Hi! Saw your profile on X. I just want to ask, I don't have experience as a beta reader but I really want to try. Do you accept even without experience?
Hi!
Anyone can offer to beta regardless of experience.
Betaing can be about more than just experience. It can be about how well you and the writer vibe together, and sometimes it just helps to have a second person look over your work.
There are also resources to help with beta reading. A kind follower provided us with this: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30364290/chapters/74854959, which is a helpful guide to betaing.
Either way, everyone has to start somewhere, and I am sure there are many writers who would be grateful for your help.
For now, we have been asking potential betas to comment under our request posts, but soon we will have a form to make the process easier for everyone.
Thanks for showing interest
Is there a limit on how dead dove a fic can be or is anything fair game as long as the proper warnings are given?
Hi!
Writers are free to request whatever they like as long as they adhere to our guidelines. However, we, as mods, reserve the right to request further information or context.
Final decisions can be discussed in dm’s; otherwise, there are no hard limitations on requests (except as stated in the guidelines).
That being said, we will always write out trigger warnings and appropriate tags in full in the tweet to ensure muted words work as intended.
Our guidelines can be found here: https://x.com/skzbetarequest/status/1994826841195180260.
I hope this answers your question. If not, feel free to dm us or send us another message.
