this is an amazing question and something i really don’t get to talk about or clarify enough due to the limited pov so thank you for asking 🫶 definitely not a silly question at all. yeonjun was definitely in love with jiro, at least for a short period of time and especially when they first started doing the rituals together. he really thought jiro was so strong to endure such a thing as possession over and over, and admired a lot of things about him. jiro’s perspective is more complicated. yeonjun’s demon is the most powerful one he’s ever worked with, so it provided the most energy(?) for jiro out of any. the way it works is that the demonic mediums essentially die to be able to communicate on the demonic plane, but regain life force through undergoing possessions. the stronger the entity possessing them, the more time they buy to “live” on their own. sort of like vampires and blood i guess?? but they remain mostly human. anyway, jiro got a lot out of being with yeonjun. he did also even come to like yeonjun and maybe love him, but he went into their “relationship” knowing it would never be what yeonjun wanted. due to the nature of acting as a vessel for several different people (and often also convincing people to do rituals in any way he could), he couldn’t promise yeonjun monogamy so he was much more careful about falling in love. still, they had a very intense and codependent relationship. jiro knew the extent of yeonjun’s abilities and was afraid that his feelings for him were more a byproduct of that influence than his own conscious love for him, which often made him colder and crueler to compensate. this was one of the things that ultimately made their relationship unbearable. i think yeonjun rarely exercised any influence over him on purpose, partly because he still doesn’t know how to control it very well, but i do think there were times that he would artificially soothe jiro, make him less afraid of what they were doing, and use his power of bliss to repair their relationship.

also yes, yeonjun’s love for the vessel undergoing possession makes the connection far stronger. think of it as being twice as satiating. his love for soobin amplifies the effect of the ritual as well as the power siphoned from it. however, yeonjun also wants to do the possession ritual with someone who loves him in return because he knows they’ll have a better chance of controlling themselves during the ritual and keeping both of them safe. imagine a stranger in that position with him, they’d have no instinctual urge to protect yeonjun from the intensity of the demon, and so things could go very badly for him very quickly. the demon doesn’t want to kill yeonjun because their deal is mutually beneficial, but It’s also extremely unhappy with him. we might actually see some of this explicitly in the final chapter ><~ anyway, soobin is the ultimate partner for yeonjun in this because his religious devotion is irresistible to the demon while protecting him during the actual ritual. it makes his blood more powerful and his body more tempting to possess. soobin also loves yeonjun more than anyone before (certainly more than jiro) and because of this, the energy yeonjun receives from him is unmatched. soobin can also fight against the demon’s urges to hurt him as punishment for his evasion because he would never want to do something like that to the person he loves. tldr yeonjun is very stupid for not just coming clean to soobin about the entire thing because he’s the solution to all of his problems lol. anyway, thank you again so so much for reading and for the great question!! i really hope you like the last chapter once it’s out! much love to you 🥹🫶💕💞💓
