Lem so mysterious (intentional or just on back burner?) Would you be able to give some tidbits on what's up with Jen & Lem? Their dynamic maybe? Sorry, I'm so curious 😔
Very much both intentionally mysterious and on the back burner. Lem haunts the narrative, I would say she's not a very established character until Act 3. She has a major presence in Act 1 but there isn't much focus on her still. There are lots of reasons I've not talked too much about them... it's kind of... the blood of the series deep down! And so, it feels like a spoiler I guess, not just letting you experience their relationship for yourself. Lem is also one of the reasons I have to worry about censorship of this game, and it's been hard to try to figure out how to approach that, what's vague in an interesting way and not just a cop out. Truly I don't know how to talk about their dynamic in the game without worrying about people just... making sweeping generalizations about the entire thing sort of like they do with tcoaal, so really feels like I can't talk about it too much and should just let the work speak for itself.
But as for tidbits, I feel like you could pick up on these things for people who've paid rly close attention to IOGW (previously Sugar Pool - now just the title of the first act) since 2022 but im sure thats not rly anyone but me jdhfh anyway some stuff about Lem slightly SPOILERY if you dont just want to experience these things for yourself: She was a dealer when they were kids as a way to make money (they were poor), ofc this resulted in her getting into a lot of sketchy things and knowing a lot of sketchy people and had traumas of her own, she practically raised Jen bc their uncle wasn't really present much (too busy with work), while outwardly she appeared like a very noble and good big sister to everyone in private she's wasn't really coping with things well and as a result took it out on Jen sometimes, Jen loves her but the abuse creates complex feelings ofc as a child she's not really processing any of this it's just all confusing, Lem carries a lot of guilt about everything and basically thinks she's the biggest piece of shit on earth this results in extremely generous honeymoon periods which is ofc all the more confusing from Jen's perspective lol, Lem was often distressed at the signs that Jen wasn't "normal" and worried about the ability to take care of her in the future/already didn't expect her to ever be an independent adult back then, obviously due to events they get separated for the timespan of Act 2. Act 3 is Lem returning to Jen's life.
