Hey, thanks for reminding me about that because I literally just remembered that part. When I first read the line where Jeongwoo told Doyoung āyou can come back when things get better,ā I was like⦠wait, did he really just say that? Like heās just going to sit there and wait for him to come back??? Why wouldnāt he go look for him instead? That felt so not right to me, like it didnāt sound like him at all.
But then when I reached the last chapter where they meet again, I completely forgot about that. And honestly itās all because of the whole "summer scent" detail. I donāt even know how to explain it properly. The street is crowded, cars are passing by, everything is chaotic, and somehow Doyoung can still recognize that scent. And itās probably just a really faint, passing smell too (I mean⦠unless Jeongwoo literally bathes in perfume instead of water lmao).
But yeah, recognizing a familiar scent in such a big, crowded place with a million other smells around⦠that scene really got to me. Just imagine Doyoung standing in the middle of a busy intersection. What makes him turn around isnāt seeing a familiar silhouette that looks like Jeongwoo, but catching a familiar scent Jeongwoo. That detail is honestly so beautiful it almost makes me want to cry.
So I ended up forgetting that Jeongwoo once said that to Doyoung, and it even kind of overshadowed the fact that even though he said that, he was actually the one who went looking for him first haha. Realizing that now is honestly kind of fascinating.
And now that Iām talking about this, something else just came to mind: do you think they exchanged addresses? Honestly, whether they did or not, that moment when they meet again at the intersection is still beautiful to me. But if they didnāt⦠wow. I genuinely donāt even know what to say. That coincidence would make the scene like a hundred times more amazing.
Just imagine Doyoung leaving without leaving any contact info, not even sure if heāll ever see him again. And then suddenly that person just appears out of nowhere and is standing right in front of him. I feel like heād be completely stunned, like totally speechless, brain just short-circuits for a second.
And yes, Iāll keep your words of thanks close to my heart. I just want you to know that I truly appreciate every word youāve written and every work youāve created. Thatās why I also wanted to write something for you hehe. It makes me really happy to know that my rambling could make you laugh. Talking with you is really fun too. I just wish I could send you a million hearts on AO3, but sadly the platform wonāt let me do that :)))
Youāre right, that little āsummer scentā detail changes everything. As per my research (google), scent is a powerful trigger of memory because it directly accesses the brainās emotional center, often bringing back intense nostalgia faster than sight or sound. Same with what happened to my good friend, Doyoungāin the middle of all that noise and chaos, itās not a face or a voice that stops him; itās something so small and familiarāa smell that akin to freedom, joy, and adventure. And I think thatās what makes it feel so intimate and emotional.
As to whether they exchange addresses or not, I'd like to leave that a little ambiguous š¤If they did, it means they were still hoping to find each other again someday. But if they didnāt⦠then that meeting at the intersection really does feel like fate stepping in at exactly the right moment.
Also, it really means a lot to know that something I wrote stayed with you for you to think about it this deeply. And your āramblingā isnāt rambling at allāitās one of the most thoughtful messages Iāve received. If ao3 allowed sending hearts, Iād be sending a million back to you, too. (Ė Ẹ̣̇̄āẸ̣̇̄)ć„ā”
