it's not stupid! i totally get it. (i'm also trans. dysphoria is strange sometimes!)
i also thought about using merman but that word feels silly cuz it feels like the genderbent version of a word that exists and not a word in it's own right, and i don't like when words are gendered so i default to mermaid. but that also might've been a mistake on my part!! you said it didn't make it better to rephrase it in your head, but in general if i ever want to say anything to you where the word is feminine and has a masculine counterpart that is not as used, would it be better to use the masculine one? i really don't feel bad i just wanna make sure. different question would you prefer wings, tail or horns
hm good question. to be honest i think that this is something very specific to me and maybe some biases i have in my head bc like. through the character of fjord, ive become somewhat enamoured of like. sailors and sailing history. and folklore of the sea and such. it’s a quiet interest that i really need to invest more time into really. but anyways, i think i have created a weird gender binary where Sailors are men and Mercreatures are women. for whatever reason. it is QUITE dumb. but i don’t think it applies to anything else
to answer the second question: horns! the jewelry would be fun
