I don't think Ilya would get cancelled on hockeytwt for much until the follow tracker, however I do think he'd have a "malkin liking bisexual pegging porn on main" moment and it would feed all sorts of discourse and arguments, probably he'd also have a "garnet Hathaway liking a post about bi erasure making it difficult to come out" on main and maybe a "Brad Marchand biting his teammates tits after winning the cup" sorta thing
my thoughts of the day are: what would ilya get cancelled for? does hockeytwt cancel players? how woke is it there? do you have any information or thoughts on this?
I honestly don't think Ilya does anything cancellable, he's just a ratfuck on the ice which makes hating him even more annoying bc he's such an aggressive asshole who lovessss taunting fans of opposing teams, loves firing back on social media, and LOVES being a cocky shit in the press but he never says or does anything politically incorrect so hating him too much just makes you look weird.
and I don't think that ilya is like Uniquely on top of current social issues, I just think that he's smart and knows when he should or shouldn't run his mouth. he'd never say anything outwardly discriminatory to any particular group, he'd make sure he knows what a word means before using it so if it's offensive he just avoids it, and kind of parrots the same "hockey is for everyone" talking points if he's ever pressed. he'd just be buttoned up abt that sort of stuff.
people probably try to cancel him via nhl follow tracker hook up hunting but that's a non-issue so it never goes anywhere.
i want to start funnier more character-based hr discourse. i think i would dislike ilya rozanov so much irl at least until hollanov got outed. like ugh this cocky nasty russian man whose father was a militsya officer making jokes about the soviet union... probably homophobic and a putin supporter too 😒 not to even mention the ways he's a general hockey pest on the ice... i Would be liking every single hate tweet i come across and then feel slightly bad about it after the irina foundation launch and then have to do a complete 180 pivot to be like. Actually I Support Queer People's Rights AND Wrongs after they get outed. and i'd hate it but solidarity is more important than hatred.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH THIS IS LIKE IF NIKITA KUCHEROV OF THE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING AND NICK SUZUKI GOT CAUGHT MAKING OUT IN THE BACKGROUND OF A CAMEO FILMED BY COLE CAUFIELD
(im sorry i literally don't know anyone else who might even remotely gaf about this so your inbox it is)
the second paragraph of this almost brought me to tears bc I have in fact been praying for harm against TBL all week. could you imagine. and like RIGHT before playoffs too, oh my god, IMAGINE STARTING PLAYOFFS KNOWING THAT YOUR CAPTAIN WAS TONGUING A RIVAL CAPTAIN BEFORE FACING EACH OTHER IN ROUND ONE I would be sick to my stomach gay regardless of gay rights.
I have no idea what kagurabachi is about, but you have made me curious, I shall look it up
Can I ask something and u mean it in good faith cos you seem even headed…are these books really all that deserving of THIS amount of discourse on the internet? I watched the show it was cute. I read most of the books and they were ok. So what on earth is happening that people are so deeply invested in spending hours online discussing this piece of IP?
they are not worth it at all. do I still enjoy discussing the books and analyzing the characters? yes, if there's one thing that reid is good at, it's writing fandomizable characters. but the texts don't support this kind of fast pace discourse ecosystem. that's why everyone has lost their minds
No shade at all! But very recently RR put out an interview saying that making Shane autistic was very much international. Now do I believe that..well no! But I think that’s what has gotten ppl irritated. Like…Rachel you just said something different sister!
Something that bothers me about the whole Troy discourse this last week, is that a lot of people talk about the whole thing as if Troy just came out and expected everyone to forgive him, and well, that's not what happens at all.
The whole book is centered around him trying to be better (and if we take Eric's pov in common goal into consideration he was starting to not be as complicit even before the trade) and actively hating himself throughout the first half of the book over what he did. Like I'm pretty sure at some point he says something about not wanting to pursue Harris because he is not a good person.
Aside from the fact that when he apologizes to Ryan he doesn't expect forgiveness, he's honestly trying to be better.
And personally I think that's why the shady af Shane Hollander comebacks feel so odd, because despite everything Shane is a very kind and forgiving character, and it's honestly more ooc for him to actively dislike Troy and shove his past in his face when he knows there's been change and work to change.
But anyway, I do think the critique that Troy seems to just jump directly into pursuing another man instead of redeeming himself is valid, however I would dare say that it is connected. Troy was a dick and an accomplice to Dallas because of internalized homophobia, his worst moments were because he was hiding himself, but actually accepting himself and not being terrified of it is what gives him the freedom to actually change, aside from the catalyst of the sa accusations, that kinda makes him face the fact that he's friends with a very bad person, however I don't love how that was addressed in the book.
So yeah, idk why I came to tell you this, you're like the village priest now
What do you like about Shane?
I like his complex relationship with desire and shame. I love how once he unpacks his anxieties he becomes incredibly brave, and how once he's committed to something, he'll stop at nothing to get it. I love the fact that he's actually incredibly rude and blunt, he's so funny. I like that he's easy to ragebait, it's an incredibly cute trait. I LOVE that he's a quickshot & eager for praise but also sexually assertive and an honest to god cowboy. I really enjoy the fact that he's kind of awkward with kids but always offers to babysit. but my fav trait of is his how he shows love via his loved one's loved ones. like donating to the alzheimers fund or naming the charity after irina. it's soooo sweet of him
