not really, most homeless people already know the struggle of prison, and prison even though you get food and a place to sleep, it's violent and people form gangs and then beat people up, it's not technically any safer from the streets except that you get a bed and food.

Bc jail and prison and stuff is absolutely fucking horrible (in most countries) and living on the streets would be preferable

I cant speak from experience but my thoughts would be it had to do with location, homeless resources, prison systems and more.
I can only speak for Germany, but here it is not easy to get your hands on a gun. You could get a very convincing bb gun but for that you would need money.
Most homeless people don't save up because they are focused on survival. Which is why they set priorities like water<food<warmth/shelter<clothes<other stuff.
In the US getting your hands on a gun is generally much, much easier than it is for people here.
The prison systems also differ.
Here we are focused a lot on rehabilitation and resocialisation, so it could make sense for someone to go to prison.
But most would only act disorderly/belligerent/drunk in order to get into holding cells or 'Ausnüchterungszelle' for a night or two during really cold nights because while it isnt meant to be comfortable it is much warmer than it would be outside in the winter for example.

Actually, i'll speak from my view, homeless people generally don't have to what's required to buy a weapon or even a fake one, it would rarely get through their mind to actually rob a bank, they generally just think about getting warmed up and just surviving.
And about the prison, most of them might be conscious about the prison, the inmates aren't generally here for "fun" or make friends, i assume it's a kind of fear, or also a hope that if they keep on being good and unbothering people the karma will hit just right and bring them out of this hard part of their lives.
