not a question, just want to say that in mymind ronnie sounds exacrlylike cerys matthews from catatonia (listen to I am the mob if you haven’t already!!)
hellooo i LOVE ur art first off!! its amazing and it so wonderfully captures emotions in a way i (personally) feel i rarely see in art, its absolutely beautiful! i have a question about the relationship between ronnie and max! so in some of your posts you add things like like putting girlfriend in quotations and the fact that max didnt like ronnie much and i wanted to ask if that was all/mostly from max’s misogynist views or if their relationship was more complicated than that? i know obviously max cheated on her but i didnt know if their relatiomship was generally complicated or if max was purely just lowkey an ass 😭 thank you in advance if you respond + sorry for how long this is 😭
Ahh thank you! Ronnie and Max's relationship is a weird case. I often put girlfriend/boyfriend in quotations because they were very on and off and never very faithful. By technicality, they were together, and Ronnie even lived with him for a while, but never much of a romantic love or mutualistic understanding. It was a relationship of convenience, sort of. They both got company, Ronnie got easy drugs, and Max got easy sex. Max's misogyny and general aloof attitude definitely contributed to the disfunction of their relationship — he would dismiss her and insult her in pretty demeaning ways and enjoyed the feeling of lauding power over her. But he also cared about her in many ways. Even if the relationship was unstable and toxic, there were undoubtedly close and the most consistent presences in one another's lives. For as much as they fought and he mistreated her they also shared sparing good moments and they looked after each other. It didn't mend anything, but it was there.
How did max go about stabbing himself? Like...what do you even do after that?? What led up to it??? So many questions!
It wasn't as much of a spectacle as it sounds. It started similarly to his other violent outbursts, with him getting really angry at himself and self-restraint going out the window. It kind of just happened, impulsively, because he had a knife and was in a fit of rage. It was one of those real small pocket knives, so the injury itself wasn't too serious — it was a superficial wound and didn't touch the deep fascia at all. He regretted it quickly because it was stupid and hurt like a motherfucker. Jesse called him a cab to A&E and he got it stitched up.
how different would max and jesses upbringings be if they were women?
Ooh, this is an interesting question... much to think about... Jesse's life and upbringing would honestly be much sadder and bleaker. He would still have his obsessive, anxious attachment and destructively submissive nature, and being a woman would just make him more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. She would experience the same neglect from her mother, and abuse and degradation from her father that would come in slightly different forms. Still a similar overall impact, though. A female Jesse would end up in sex work, I think. Jesse's already terrible relationship with sex and damaging sexual practices would be amplified tenfold as a woman with the added circumstance of sex-based subjugation and the way that young girls in Jesse's position are especially preyed upon. She would be a very sad case, I think.... I'm feeling sorrow for the hypothetical girl-Jess as I'm typing this.
Shockingly, I don't think Max's upbringing would be hugely different. Max's dad (ol' Baz Mulligan), despite his rampant misogyny, would still have an attachment to his daughter following being left by Max's mum. He is highly unstable and gets angry when rejected — the need to have his child as a sort of friend and protégé would still be there, and Max would still want to follow after and appease her dad. There would be an absence of that "be a man" upbringing, but he would still be trying to toughen 'er up and teach her his ways with violence and crime and scamming and the likes. The biggest differences, I think, would be Baz being more controlling and slut-shamey to her. Her personal decisions would come under more scrutiny from him as a woman, and he'd place more rules upon her.
Does max pierce himself or have someone do it for him? :)
what does jesse feel about max’s scars?
i know it’s kind of a weird question
i'm sorry for my english
No problem!! Hmm... I think he's quite used to them, so they don't strike anything intense -- they're just a part of Max like anything else, and he likes (almost) all of Max. He's no stranger to self-harm himself, and he's pretty desensitized to things of the like, but the memory of particular circumstances behind them and the reminder of Max's rampant self-hatred would upset him sometimes.
psst me and my boyfriend LIVE for your art, what was jesse and max's relationships with their mums are like?
Thank you!! Max's mum was never in his life. She left when he was a baby and he was raised by his dad. He has bitter and derogatory feelings towards her because of the way his father had talked about her his entire life, which were the only things he even heard about her. Jesse's mum was in his life, but was caught up in a bad addiction and was severely neglectful. He loved her, but never had a real relationship with her. Seeing her poor condition would make him very upset as a child, and he was always trying to seek comfort that she would never give him.
Do Max and Jesse have any specific mental or physical conditions?
