man… that book. hearing its name again made me flinch a bit. ill be talking mostly about haunting adeline here. i read it because i was way too curious, and it actually made me sick to my stomach. i’d seen a few videos talking about some “gun scene” in this book, which made me the more nosy— yet what all of them failed to mention was that this was a rape scene of all things. there are so. many. fucking. rape and assault scenes. i’m a rape & sa victim, and seeing how romanticized and justified the acts of it were in this book genuinely made me vomit. the fact that a common perpetration that the body of a victim reacting to touch means they enjoy it made its way into this book and was only used for romanticization by the ml… not even that, but the stalking of a woman, the sexualization of her body throughout each book, the victim blaming from the mc’s inner thoughts only to fall in love with her rapist later, the justification of zade’s actions… yeah. other than that, i truly believe its just a horribly written book at that. again, the mc is sexualized to no end, and details otherwise the author doesn’t even bother delving into her own character’s motives or who she is as a person, only to be used in the unfortunate common trope where a char falls for their own rapist. the fact we never truly found out what was going on between adeline’s grandmother and her stalker, only knowing it was an affair; which gave the fuel the for ml to push the belief he’s a reincarnation of gigi’s stalker, and that adeline is gigi. the mml is described as being “morally grey” even by the author, but he’s not. he’s a horrible and disgusting man, plain and simple. dark romance, my fucking ass. also, having almost every villain in her book be mexican was… a choice.
