“Long answer that’s just an excuse to get a little weird with it: since cedric is very much the modern answer to the classic Disney villain there’s aspects of him I like to pick at. Particularly at how it inherently gives him the queer coding that’s popular among those classics. It was very validating to hear his design was based off of cruella (and jasper).

In earlier insane autistic rambles I’ve observed he’s had similarities to the evil queen and maleficent as well. The queens full cheeks, envy towards a young girl, dabbled in wicked sorcery… Cedric also shares maleficents pointed chin, pettiness towards a young girl and dramatic entrances and exits… they all share raven companions too lol. I like cedric sharing the same evil classic milf dna.

It was also funny to read an interview with craig gerber where he likely pushed for a more effeminate looking cedric after the first concept for cedric gave him a more Captain Hook inspired look (not to say hook isn’t gay cuz he is but def not what cg had in mind lol). I like how it’s called back in substitute cedric where he’s given an unsightly mustache and beard combo.

The idea of cedric feeling uncomfortably restricted in his position and not knowing why… I like him being a sort of failbrother to cordelia and roland (he and cedric being these tragic “brothers” is a hill I’ll die on. They were raised together ofc they’re brothers). And goodwyn being so disappointed that his heir isn’t the type of man he is lol. Cedric being more similar to his mother in certain mannerisms…

I’m also particular about him being unable to blend in with his hexley schoolmates. Grimtrix and greylock are highly fruity men, theoretically cedric should feel he’d fit in right? No, he seems just as alienated by the world of sorcery as he is in the world of royalty. He can’t fit into either masculine ideal.

I like the arc concluding that cedric should be accepted as he is. It’s when ppl don’t automatically push him into the bumbling role that he truly shines. Seeing him be more confident as people judge him less is very cute. So it would be nice that cedric will likely be able to examine himself more when he feels less self loathing.

In aus where he’s more evil aligned… in a very “let it go” way she pushes for a more fem presentation bc finally!!!!!! Freed from the shackles of society!!!!!!! Be free and freaky!!!!! Become milf!!!!! Be the bad girl!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaa

I’m kinda stubborn pinning a label on cedric bc i like to think about identity in the context of the canon. For anyone to step in and go “I am (modern term)” here just feels really offputting to me. But I don’t like that being used as a justification to deny any potential interpretations.

But I do like when ppl she/her cedric in my posts when it happens lol. Pretty pronouns for a pretty girl. I just don’t like to get too controlling of how my art is perceived but I do feel that maybe I should be a little less vague. I guess I’m not too into the idea that headcanoning an effeminate man being a woman is ruining things. Quite the opposite really. I love women. Keep that in mind.

Hostility towards trans hc can be discouraging at times. I kno the more prudish minded tend to use them for… tbh kind of lame reasons but eh all the more reason to get real erotic and esoteric about it.

For Cedric wah… a big part of their development is sofia not as much pushing Cedric to be great but it’s for others to acknowledge his greatness which is such a cute and funny spin on “I can fix him.” No he is fine the way he is! How about you fix yourself huh??
But ah… with more recognition comes people encroaching on your territory!!! But ah… sofia is such a kind selfless girl… would she really be capable of such terrifying emotions? And I say… sure :^3

Addressing the elephant in the room immediately. I like how in the storyboards cedric actually seemed like he was put under a charm… makes it more in character tbh lol. Not attracted to women, especially not older ones! No hags for cedric!! Only room for Sofia in that heart of his!

I also like how Sofia went from initially suspicious to immediately deciding death for Sasha the moment she started flirting with cedric. It’s ok, Sofia chan… nettle and Cedric clearly don’t have older women as their respective interests… I do love her moments of insecurity, so cute…
Rosey is such a funny inclusion to me. Makes it seem like she’s been an established character all along especially when she and nettle vow they’ll be back lmfao. I like when stf kinda has those weird continuity moments bc it does imply there was more going on behind the scenes. I also like how she’s based off the bitchy flowers from Alice in wonderland. She likely wilted off screen. Poor thing!
Oh that’s another thing I hope that’s carried over in Royal magic. Miss nettles little magical botany interest… it’s a bit of a shame she didn’t show up as much in the og series. I imagine she’s had some diabolical creations lol lol.
I feel it’s a bit understated how very alike nettle and Cedric are? It’s crazy how much of Cedric’s character arc really encapsulates the overall themes of Sofia the first. Similarities include: being the youngest and in the shadows of their respective families (now nettle and the three fairies aren’t related but you know what I mean), having a desperate need to be recognized for their magical talents, having a knack and a passion for teaching magic, so old and yet so young, having princess girlfriends way younger than them… there’s definitely motifs to be noticed here.
They’re such catty hags I hope there’s some bonding moments between the two in royal magic… I’m sure cedric is well and over the sasha thing. Let’s start anew, shall we?
It’s cute to have an early ep where Cedric and Sofia work together! As much as cedric is ur typical tsundere about it she really does value our little princess over everyone else lol. Also… anyone else notice that Cedric doesn’t really team up with other villains? It would seem so easy to do a typical “villains team up to try to defeat the hero” ep. Even in day of the sorcerers it’s less of cedric going against Sofia specifically and more of him reaching the zenith of his own internal struggles… hm…
The little moment where Sofia taps Cedric’s head is so cute… she’s certainly very handsy with cedric, isn’t she? She has such a crafty nature… using Cedric’s mirror spell to fool nettle… I do enjoy how observant and quick to strategize she is. She’s too op……..

ough cedric how they butchered our beautiful princess with a disorder… he just looks too plasticy… too smooth… the more I look at his jawline I despair…
The style overall looks a bit too plasticy which isn’t a great mix with the weird ass uncanny gen 5 mlp mouths. Makes me miss the more painterly look the old show had. While the animation is probably a big step up I will miss the awkwardly charming style the old show had.
When I’d read over blogs of the various artists of the og show it’s fairly obvious they were heavily inspired by the classic 2d animated movies. It was so cool getting to look over not just storyboards but color keys and pencil sketches. While it wasn’t all translated to the show 100 percent I certainly saw the attempt.
But hey. Current state of usmerican animation is just like that sadly. Can’t really hold it against anyone working on the show.

Now onto positives…

It’s a good sign craig gerber is still involved in it. While he does make it clear he’s been a bit nerfed by the network I believe in him… I hope most of the other writers are still there (like Laurie Israel) as well! I think ppl despair a bit too much when it comes to the show not immediately focusing on characters/scenarios from the prev show. And ppl forget that it was going to be a spinoff with original characters. While it is Sofias show, the three new characters will definitely have their own arcs ahaha.
Disney on occasion does recognize the popularity of their tv shows (look at the Disney afternoon favs like gargoyles and darkwing duck getting comics. And more modern favs like amphibia and owl house getting the graphic novel continuation treatment). stfs pilot movie was a big hit on d+ so like… idk i can imagine a bunch of lil kids tuning in and i can imagine grown ass adults who watch cartoons for babies also tuning in. Since cgs bsky hints very strongly that more callbacks are possible in da future… billions must watch… (waggles my fingers) you will watch… I need to see wormy back
Marketable plushie puppycorn is cute (voice not so much but idk it’s just a Disney critter thing). Cuter than clover. Edgy evil opinion I am not big on clover. Not a cute bunny. All hail puppycorn.
Can’t say too much on the three new characters cuz a lil teaser can only reveal so much about them but I do think they’re very cute! Do they have magic jewels too?

Charmswell seems like a new school created by the three fairies complete with color coded buildings! Eagle eyed viewers spotted a potential building for miss nettle… I hope she and cedric have cunt-offs…!!
I do wonder who would run royal prep in their stead… with cedric getting fancier robes and already having a knack for teaching… perhaps?
Cedric has such a cute new outfit… I like the pinkish colors muahaha. Matches Sofias amulet AND provides a funny parallel to goodwins red robes. To match with Winnifred’s and Sofias purple dresses… ahahaha. Ahahahahaha~~~~~~~~~~
To go back on Cedric and nettle I do find it very interesting how the two share similar backstories. Magic users turned evil due to being unfairly treated only to turn over a new leaf and eventually change their fates with the help of a magical princess… I wonder if they’ll help sofia change her fate in return.
Also ngl I would love to see the more magical aspects of stf. Elena was already mighty op I’d like to see sofia become the hydrogen baby. It’s funny seeing sofia rack up all these big roles at such a young age. Very wish fulfillment. Love it tho. Mightiest princess of the realm with her loving sorceress wife (craig gerber if you can hear my voice you will do the right thing. I believe in you.)
