james knows some italian ! he wasn't raised speaking it but his mother did teach him some as a young boy before she died, i'd say he's partially fluent. elizabeth knows less, as she only really overheard her mother and james speaking italian as she was too young to learn herself before her mother passed. james tried to teach her some, but she struggled learning a new language
