Three key moments in my life.

1: As a child I watched the original anime (english dubbed) and got REALLY into it. This mostly culminated in watching Digimon, none of the VPets or games. Had some toy figures though!

2: Like uhhh 2017 or 18? Youtuber named Pikasprey that I liked started uploading videos of him playing Digimon World 1. Loved those videos and how the game looked. Didn't go much further than that.

3: My wonderful and beloved friend Teffi managed to basically be the nail in the coffin on me being a Digimon freak. She's a big digimon enjoyer, and one of my times visiting her was VERY Digimon focused. We watched the entire original run of the anime, this time the JP dub which is Much better. We played through Digimon Story Cybersleuth (cant remember if that was the same visit but we did that together over the course of a visit) and even watched her do a randomized playthrough of Digimon World 1. I could go on and on about Teffi's impacts on my tastes but she is the core reason behind digimon being something I love as much as I do now.
