pls i have got to know what happened with jevil and your nei
(I know you meant Neo, no worries)
LMAOh my God, bro. That's one Hell of a story.
I suppose I've teased you enough about it by only mentioning it in bits and pieces. tbh I kinda just wanted to piss off Jevil fans because they never get anything and I'm mean. I didn't think anyone really cared that much, though. Glad to know that my teasing was successful on at least you.
So…
Spamton and Jevil always had an iffy relationship to begin with. Both of them foresaw (at least parts of, for what canon knowledge we currently have) a terrible prophecy, realized the the impermanence of their existence, and went mad from it. In Spamton's case, he refused to accept fate and tried desperately to obtain freedom. Jevil, meanwhile, gave into the inevitability of fate and decided to enjoy the ride while he still could, opting to pursue a life of chaos since he came to see consequences as irrelevent in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure whether or not they had some sort of in-person contact or if, rather, they were able to somehow communicate through the shadow crystals - but it's clear that they knew each-other to some degree prior to us meeting either of them in the game.
I believe that they both must have felt an initial sense of relief at finding another person who understood what they did, and jumped the gun into a friendship over that fact, but the rapport was short-lived. Jevil continually tried to convince Spamton to abandon his ambitions because they were futile, and instead embrace the chaos as he had. Spamton refused, ultimately becoming afraid of Jevil - afraid of becoming like Jevil should he fail. A small part of why he completely gave up after his defeat as NEO and relinquished his autonomy to become the dealmakers was due to this fear. He'd rather be nothing or be dead than just accept that there wasn't anything out there for him like Jevil did. At the end of the day, Spamton chose, in his own way, to help others rather than to hurt them at the end of his story, which is unlike Jevil.
In my little AU thing or whatever you want to call it, where everyone lives and the Light and Darkworlds are connected, Spamton (who remains NEO, albeit a corrupted and broken version of it) is of course ecstatic to finally be free. Tragically, that joy quickly faded once he realized that he didn't actually feel any different… He had no idea what to do with himself now that he had his freedom. His whole life has been a consistent struggle of pursuit and failure, but at least he was always working towards something. Now it was all just going through the motions. He thought maybe it didn't feel as good to him as he imagined it would because he didn't actually earn it. The reason he wound up in the Lightworld had nothing to do with any of his own actions - it was just something that happened. So all that pursuit and failure, all those nights spent alone, screaming his loved ones' names at the bottom of a dumpster, nobody coming to help him, all that grief and the beatings and the prayers - it was all for nothing. It was just bad things that happened. For everything he'd been through, being robbed of the ability to enjoy his freedom upon finally obtaining it is what hurt the most.
Then came the self-loathing. He'd already had to struggle with the fact that NEO wasn't everything he wanted it to be, even with its strings cut. Now he agonized that maybe the problem simply was himself. He finally had everything he ever wanted, he should be happy, but he wasn't - so maybe he was just broken and could never be happy. There was no other reality to run to that would save him from that. The Lightworld didn't have anything to offer him. Not even the kids needed him now that their journey was over. He was getting thorouhly exhausted of trying to find meaning, and his mind was teetering on the edge of going to very dark places.
For better or for worse, this is when Jevil arrived.
Jevil had intentionally sought Spamton out. He knew that he was NEO now and he wanted to see what Spamton would do with that since making it to the Lightworld. His disappointment to realize that the answer was "nothing" couldn't be understated. He also saw, though Spamton tried to hide it, that the NEO body was a burden. For both of these things, he felt pity for Spamton, and decided to cheer him up like the jester he was. He told Spamton that settling into monotony was unacceptable and he'd need to do something about it now or else he'd meet an early fate, and he suggested that the reason Spamton didn't know what to do with himself was because he was overwhelmed by the options. The could do whatever they wanted! The possibilities were nearly endless! Basically, didn't he just want to go apeshit? They should cause some CHAOS CHAOS. So that's exactly what they did.
Jevil and Spamton proceeded to go on a major bender. During it, they wanted to experience everything the Lightworld had to offer - seeing the sights, then destroying the sights just for the Hell of it, scythe and pipis target practice, fighting each-other, fighting other people who dared to try and stop them, hotwiring cars suited for large enough monsters that NEO could also joyride them, crashing and abandonning said cars when they were done with them, dumpster diving for interesting old items (Spamton's idea) then getting bored of that and stealing interesting new items (Jevil's idea), dine-and-dashing lightner food, chugging lightner alcohol, getting frisky on one occasion (even if the moment was ruined by Spamton accidentally saying Tenna's name and having to jack off sadly and drunkenly because it made Jevil mad), smashing every TV and computer in an electronic store, vandalizing signs of Queen's political campaigns in the nearby city, breaking in and triggering the sprinklers to ruin shops and merchandise that the addisons had set up…just engaging in deliquency overall. They cost thousands of dollars in property damage and racked up a number of charges to their names while remaining largely untouchable by law enforcement thanks to the power of NEO and Jevil's bullet-hell bullshit.
3 months of this until Undyne and other officers were finally able to put a stop to their chaos. Granted, it took nearly every cop in a 10-mile radius, and they were only able to subdue Spamton thanks to him being incredibly drunk at the time. Thankfully for the police that day, not even NEO's bluelight special could save him from the sheer amount of alcohol coursing through his system. At the last minute amton saw Jevil, watching him as he was held on the ground and told his rights, smile awkwardly then vanish. Oh well. That's what he gets for trusting a fucking clown.
To be honest, Jevil had his own ulterior motives for this whole thing. Since making it to the Lightworld himself, he had been searching for Seam, wondering if he too was there somewhere…but he didn't know if he could even face Seam after everything. He terrified Seam. Seam had to break ties with him even though he never wanted to. Jevil's chaos was too much for him to handle. Then Seam was even forced to lock him away for his misdeeds. Jevil never held the same bitterness for Seam that Spamton had for Tenna - a darkners life was too short for that - but he did wish things worked out differently for them. It just wasn't in Seam's nature to embrace chaos. Meanwhile, all this time had passed and Jevil was still the same, even despite obtaining his own freedom from the prophecy. Chaos had simply become a way of life for him. Would Seam even want to see him again, that being the case? Not wanting to think about it, he told himself he was just taking a break from his search, and he went to go blow off some steam with Spamton instead, largely using him to avoid dealing with his own situation within the Hell he created for himself (and for those around him).
Jevil didn't want to abandon Spamton, but his only other option was to step in and most likely wind up getting caught as well. Spamton would have done the same thing if he was in his situation... At least, that's what he told himself. It was definitely something he needed to see, though. Jevil realized from witnessing Spamton's arrest that since there was no longer any predetermined end for him to face, his free-will did have an impact and his actions did have consequences. It's just too bad that Spamton was the one who had to face those consequences for the both of them. Jevil reteats to the Darkworld after that, deciding he was safer and he could have more fun there. However, he did start to calm down on his antics, at least for a little while, because he had a lot to think about.
Anyway, Spamton was arrested. When he regained consciousness after blocking out in the world's largest prison cell, he bet your ass he was PISSED to rememeber how Jevil screwed him over at the last minute. He couldn't even rat him out as an accomplice in exchange for a plea deal because he had no idea where Jevil went! As his hangover faded, the devastating realization that he may have completely fucked up whatever chance at a new life had began sinking in. Being in a cell felt familiar to being tied by strings… Spamton became anxious, restless, claustrophobic, even downright frantic at times, literally chewing at the bars like some kind of animal and just overall being a huge pain in the ass for whoever's turn it was to deal with him (like Undyne lol she can't stand him).
He faced initial charges of public disturbance, resisting arrest, and assault of a police officer. After 24 hours he went to a bail hearing, but had no means to pay it, so went back to the clink. The date for his criminal trial was indefinite. More charges would be coming once the prices for the damage he caused was tallied up, but that would take time to do. Most likely, he'd spend a prolonged amount of time in jail due the length of the investigation and the fact that darkners in the Lightworld were such a new phenomenom. There was a lot of technicalities that the courts had to consider. Spamton didn't technically count as a citizen, he didn't have any identification, so he also didn't technically have any rights and couldn't be legally represented, meaning they had to decide whether or not the police even had any juristiction to sentence him. They could only treat him as they would any other case until these matters were sorted. At least the lawyer assigned to Spamton's defense said they could argue in the future to count the time he'd be spending there towards whatever his final sentence may be, but to be honest, Spamton really couldn't fathom a future at that point, so everything that lawyer said fell on deaf ears.
The courts had to choose someone to represent the Darkworld in these affairs, which naturally fell on the Darkworld's prince, our favorite fluffy boy: Ralsei. Age, like many aspects when it comes to darkners, is somewhat abstract. It could be argued that Ralsei is a minor because he seems so young, so the courts didn't feel comfortable negotiating only with him. Because Spamton is originally from Cyber City, Queen was also called upon. Kris, hearing about all of this from Ralsei, phones Tenna to bail Spamton out. Spamton didn't know it at the time, but Kris had actually been worried about him, they just didn't have any way to contact him (he'd feel bad about that later). Kris didn't want to talk to Tenna, but they wanted Spamton out of jail. Being a minor, they couldn't do anything about it themselves, and they knew that Toriel wouldn't hear them out - but most importantly, they knew that Tenna would do anything they wanted. Tenna proceeded to literally beg Lanino and Elnina to help by taking out a loan to pay for Spamton's bail (since Tenna hadn't been doing much of anything in the Lightworld aside from being a good TV to Mettaton, no bank would give him a loan, but Lanino and Elnina already had jobs as weather people) and for some reason unknown even to them, they obliged. Tenna promised to find a way to pay them back someday and to never ask them for anything ever again.
Spamton felt humiliated to be bailed out by Tenna of all people, and he definitely didn't want any of the kids, especially Kris, to pity him. So hearing Kris was how Tenna even knew he was in jail added to the humiliation. But overall he was just relieved to be out of there, even if he didn't know what was going to happen to him from there. It was...awkward. Spamton and Tenna had reunited in Castle Town, but that was hardly a joyous occasion for either of them. The last time they saw each-other was right before the kids gave Tenna to Mettaton. Spamton was a real jerk and said some terrible things to him back then... Seeing Tenna again after that felt kind of surreal. They clearly had a lot to talk about, but for the time being, Tenna just took Spamton to the ghost house. As I've said before, they all lived together for a while in less than ideal conditions.
For once in his life, Spamton got lucky. He got very lucky. Had he been arrested after Lightworld and Darkworld relations been more legally established, he would have wound up in jail for at least 5 years - but because the situation was so iffy at the time, he got off easy. Ralsei also vouched for him a lot and even Queen pulled some strings (no pun intended) despite Spamton vandalizing a few of her campaign ads (she was only doing that for shits and giggles anyway). Spamton was sentenced to house arrest for 23 months and wore an ankle monitor that entire time while also abiding to a strict curfew, meeting with a parole officer bi-weekly, abstaining from any alcohol, and partaking in routine drug and alcohol tests. Additionally, he was required to perform 240 hours of community service, which he spent helping to construct a park in Hometown (said park being the 7 flowers' big project since getting to the Lightworld, sponsored by Flower King). Needless to say, Spamton fucking HATED it! He fucking hated his life throughout it all! But he had no choice. His bitch ass got humbled.
Some time later, after he was finally free…again - and after he and Tenna had moved into their own home and began trying to patch their relationship back up, I dare you to guess what happened.
Jevil showed up again.
Yup. Just in time for Spamton to finally start making everything right, Jevil comes careening back into his life like a speeding car ready to fuck everything up. Spamton was, of course, furious with Jevil. He denied that he'd have left Jevil to get arrested had their positions been swapped (but part of him wasn't sure if that was even true). However, he also knew that he couldn't blame Jevil for everything ... Spamton made plenty of bad decisions on his own. Jevil never held a pipis blaster to his head and forced him to do any of the things he did while they were on their bender. Regardless, it was still taking all of his self-control not to beat the everloving shit out of Jevil right on his and Tenna's (who wasn't home at the time) doorstep, but he was afraid of going to jail again lol. But that didn't stop him from demanding to know why Jevil dared to come back, and he threatened to call the cops on him if he wasn't satisfied with his answer (which was a bluff and Jevil knew it).
Apparently, after Kris managed to drag more details about what happened with Spamton out of Ralsei (once Spamton was sentenced), they went to Castle Town to find and confront Jevil about it (Susie came as backup). Kris wanted to know why Jevil did all of that. They and Ralsei were both worried on if they could even trust Jevil anymore. After a brief confrontation, Jevil stopped having fun with their skirmish once he saw how genuinely angry Kris was. He didn't see that look even in the eyes of the kings who ordered him to be locked away. That said…he knew it wasn't fair for Spamton to be jailed while he wasn't. He did feel bad about the whole thing because he knew what Spamton was going through by being betrayed and imprisoned like that. Afterall, no matter how much Spamton may hate him, Jevil will still always be the person who understands him better than anyone - better even than Kris, though Spamton has fooled himself into believing otherwise. He was honest to Kris about his search for Seam and how he halted it to go on the bender with Spamton, though he didn't admit exactly why aside from saying he had some conflicting emotions over his search being unsuccessful. He offered to make things right by busting Spamton out of prison, but Susie quickly shoots that offer down. Her, Kris, and Ralsei soon decide that Jevil should stay in the Darkworld for a while, and Ralsei adds that he'll ask (more like voluntell) Jevil to help him improve Dark Castle to keep him busy. Almost 2 years later, Ralsei decides that Jevil should be allowed back into the Lightworld since Spamton's punishment was also over by then. It only seemed fair. This, without Ralsei's intention, is what revealed to Jevil that Spamton had been released.
Jevil simply wanted to apologize to Spamton. He invited Spamton out for the day to have some legal fun and even pay for it all since he'd earned some Lightworld money by entertaining lightner tourists at the Dark Castle. Even though every neuron in his brain was urging him not to, Spamton couldn't say no to free food and fun - but he made it perfectly clear that he was trying really hard to make things work out between him and Tenna, so there was to be no funny business. Jevil promised to keep his antics to a minimum. At first, they did have a good wholesome time. Jevil was curious about Spamton's plans since he was also in the process of having to rethink things for his own life. He admitted that seeing Spamton get arrested made him realize how different things were now, and how he couldn't fall back on a temporary world and existence or an inescapable prophecy to excuse his misdeeds. Feeling guilt and apprehension for the first time in years wasn't pleasant... But Spamton didn't have any answers for him. Even if he was happier with Tenna now, he still didn't know what to do with himself in the long run. He'd had bad luck for so long, never succeeded at anything, and had gotten so used to being abandoned. The despair and resentment didn't go away just because they were in the Lightworld now. He never expected that. So he and Jevil were in similar positions in terms of feeling lost… The day started to take a bleaker turn after that conversation.
Truly, neither of them intended for things to get crazy - they were just trying too hard to revitalize the good vibes, and turned to some casual drinking and "crashing" a barbeque at the park as a means to do that (the barbeque was public, so no actual crashing occurred). But casual drinking turned into not-so-casual drinking and they quickly got bored. Even though Spamton hadn't been back to the Darkworld for all this time, he and Jevil both went to the Party Dojo seeking some more exciting entertainment. They had a ton of fun but eventually get kicked out by a Zapper for being too drunk and boistrous and because Spamton wouldn't stop launching pipis during battle challenges (nearly everything and everyone in the dojo was painted blue from pipis by the time they were kicked out)
Despite things getting out of hand, they had fun, and at least they didn't do anything illegal. Still, Spamtom really hoped never to wake up on the floor of an alley ever again… It was extra distressing for him to see Jevil as the first person by his side when he came to. Then he was angey all over again! To Jevil's credit, he was considerate enough to stay with Spamton the whole time he was passed out (bear minimum btw) and he filled Spamton in on some of the less embarrassing things that'd happened. Just to be sure Jevil was telling the truth about it all, Spamton took a walk of shame back to the Party Dojo where the staff there filled him in on the rest of the blanks - then they told him to NEVER come back. Jevil caught up with Spamton to walk him home afterwards, which is when the panic set in because Spamton realized he was way beyond the time he intended to get home, which was supposed to be before Tenna got back. Not only that, Tenna had been trying to text him (Spamton doesn't like phones, but modern phones don't make him as anxious, so he doesn't make or take calls but he still texts, even if Tenna sucks at it) but none of them went through because phones don't work in the Darkworld. It was only after getting back to the Lightworld that Spamton recieved the 52 texts Tenna had sent over the past however fucking long he was out.
Poor Tenna had been frantic. He didn't know where Spamton was or why, and he couldn't get him on the phone. It was a very familiar dread… What if he never got Spamton back this time? He asked everyone but nobody knew where he was. Eventually, somebody did mention seeing Spamton at the park, but they didn't know anything aside from the fact that he left with Jevil. Prior to that, Tenna was considering going to the police for help, but then he became too afraid that if Spamton was found with Jevil they'd put him in jail again. Terror shifted to relief and eventually to anger after Spamton finally texted him back saying that he was okay and on his way home. That anger then amplified tenfold when he saw Jevil return alongside him. Even Jevil knew it was time to just get the fuck out of there as fast as possible or he was going to be turned into jester soup.
Tenna was understandably outraged. How, after everything he had done for Spamton since they reunited, could Spamton put him through that again? He thought Spamton was serious when he agreed they should patch things up, but now it felt like Tenna was the only one taking them seriously. They had a big fight over it, one that could have lowered the curtains on ther relationship for good, but neither of them wanted to give up. They were both exhausted and decided just to deal with it in the morning when Spamton got over his hangover.
When morning came, Tenna told Spamton he'd only forgive him if he agreed to start going to couple's therapy with him. To be honest, Tenna didn't want to do it either. Like Spamton, he didn't believe any of that therapy stuff really worked, but Elnina and Lanino had been telling him about how great it was for them since they started going to deal with their competitiveness and disagreements on how to pursue their new careers and lives in the Lightworld. They even suggested it to Tenna back when they first heard he and Spamton were going to live in their new home together (they both also just wanted Tenna to get into some kind of therapy anyway). If it didn't work…well, then they'd just go from there. But they both had to admit that they needed some change they clearly weren't capable of making on their own.
The therapy was touch and go. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn't. They're both too set in their ways to always follow advice all the way through. But overall, they did start to get happier together thanks to the external mediation and to their own efforts, alongside their own individual healing that they both desperately needed. Their therapist, however, is slowly going insane from having them as clients 💀
And as for Jevil? I'm not so sure...but for now he's giving Spamton plenty of space.
