First, let me ramble a little bit about Tenna and Mettaton's relationship.
After making it to the light world, Tenna and Mettaton of course instantly become friends, and while Tenna is happy just to continue being Mettaton's loyal television, Mettaton also opens up to him about his own dreams and they start to bond further. Mettaton later meets Alphys while Tenna is showing him the darkworld (remember, they both exist in this scenario). Alphys, for context, has been having a blast in the darkworlds since discovering them. I like to kind of mix UT and DR canons for the characters, so I imagine that Alphys had been getting more into robotics after bonding with Sweet Cap'n Cakes over anime soundtracks. Alphys and Mettaton bond over the excitement of discovering new opportunities, and Alphys decides to take part in building Mettaton a temporary body (the boxy one) while Swatch - who Mettaton has also met and befriended, naturally - works with him on making a better one (his EX form).

Sneo comes into the picture later after re-reuniting with Tenna in the lightworld (they reunited for the first time in Castle Town before Tenna left, and it wasn't very pleasant). Without going into too much detail, a bender and a bad break with a clown left him in some trouble which Ralsei and Tenna generously helped him get out of, and he wound up having to stay with Tenna and Mettaton in the ghost house for quite some time afterwards. It was cramped and there was a lot of tension and, even though the slowly started to get on good terms again, he largely felt like a third-wheel next to him and Mettaton.

Fastfoward and eventually they're all cool with each-other. Mettaton gets his body, Spamton gets updated to his NEO form which makes it less cumbersome for him, and Tenna and Spamton even talk about getting back together. After getting his own ideal body from Swatch, Mettaton gains quite a flair for the dramatic and starts performing in a couple places before eventually being presented with bigger opportunities. While Tenna performed alongside Mettaton at first in a short-lived but very fun TV Time revival, he starts to act more as an agent for Mettaton as Mettaton's own career advances. Mettaton winds up getting his own show inspired by TV Time - with Tenna as his agent and eventually his producer. Mettaton use the profits to help buy a home for Tenna and Spamton. tbh it's a piece of shit in an abandoned offset of town. Mettaton didn't think it was THAT bad (he got scammed lol) but Tenna and especially Spamton couldn't complain, since what really matters is that it's big enough for the two of them be ause it was originally constructed for large monsters. Tenna and Spamton, while amicable, had reservations about staying together as a couple after their past (almost entirely on Spamton's side), wind up bonding a great deal through renovating the home together and finally make plans to remain in a long-term relationship, although they BOTH still need to work on some things - which is also mostly on Spamton's side atp (Tenna got a headstart with his healing thanks to his friendship with Mettaton). Also due to Spamton still having quite a bit of issues, he doesn't exactly have a job. He still finds and sells some things just for the love of the game (first through dumpster diving, but he eventually stops that and starts thrift-flipping and reselling instead). He also takes up more hobbies: furniture restoration, tinkering with lightworld cars, painting, and even piano again. Hometown has gotten a lot more visitors since the darkworlds opened up, so sometimes he gets to fix the cars of stranded tourists. Ralsei even bought some paintings from him to spruce up the castle since lightner tourists have been visiting it as well. Tenna is always so proud of Spamton whenever he makes money...and even moreso when he doesn't eat it! The first time Spamton saved enough to take them both out for dinner was a wonderful occasion, despite the food poisoning that Spamton got because his luck is still shitty sometimes.

Spamton definitely prefers to work for himself by just doing whatever he wants and making money independently. It also helps him get away with not paying taxes lol
But I think if he were to get an actual job, and eventually that most likely will happen because Spamton is a very ambitious individual - he'd wind up running a pawn shop. It suits him perfectly! He'd have to do some preliminary work he'd hate, though. Since I apparently HC Deltarune in Canada for some reason, that means at least proving he has knowledge/education equal to secondary school, maybe even getting a degree or certificate in business administration or something similar, he could probably argue that his self-employed sells count as experience...but that doesn't get him out of needing a pawnsbroker license or adhering to federal regulation or getting insurance...and he can't get any of that without having a SIN and paying taxes, so the CRA wouldn't be happy with him since he hasn't done any of that yet but he's still been living in the lightworld. Ralsei could probably help his situation as a representative of all dark ers, but that would require asking Ralsei for help first... All of that is probably a major part of the reason he hasn't done it yet! 😭
