Hockeytok needs to be studied like it's an disfigured animal in a cage, i fucking hate that tag on a sidenote. Tumblr's my goat even if some of the takes on there do have a tendency on making me feel irritated a bit.  #willnotbetalkingabouthockeytwt,  fuck that

Anyways, promised talk about the Quinn trade because Canadian teams never fail to piss me off on how they treat some of their franchise players — part 1 !

➜ Lowk got too engrossed into this which i undoubtedly locked-in for. This does not have to be responded to immediately ! So Don't worry too much. ^_^

This might be told in chronological order — i don't know yet, scratches head.

Q: My thoughts on Quinn resigning or not.

A: I wholeheartedly believe Hughes didn't wanna turn to resigning with the Canucks and this is as genuine as i can ever be; because i feel like, yeah it's absolutely a common thing in Hockey culture to thank your former captain who's also been the leading face of your franchise for the last 7 years that he was so dedicated to spending time with bringing this big ball of effort into playing for a miserable team who's skipped playoffs on whatever number it's sitting at as of right now (update: two times with Quinn being present during said play-offs, 2 out of 4 times Van has missed them). You would think enough that Vancouver had an elite defenseman which was forever in this case, always QH43 (not sure about the entire roster in-terms of Elite-level talent but I'll keep my mouth shut for the time being, Includes talking about the Canucks' prospect pool) — and.. you couldn't for some reason, literally rebuild around him because once again, Hughes has a 6 year - $7.85M contract that's producing per season for context — I would think that's maybe half of the time you could of contributed to trading for better assets when he was present. Don't get me started on the multiple chances they had to make that core into a dominating team; this may be a "controversial" take from me, but i'd rather see Quinn walk and Vancouver getting nothing in-return for him in all honestly  (Not possible now, but when i tell you i'd like to see that ungrateful team get fucked over for the rest of their seasons, Canadian front offices are cursed with inheriting evilness by textbook definition).

Q: thoughts about Hughes walking to nj sometime whenever it's coming down to his career:

A: I DO think there's a possibility that Quin will walk after the Wild — if he doesnt sign with a contract with them — or straight up go to New Jersey to play with Both Jack & Luke, but at the same time, I want him to adjust to playing for a completely different team that's more focused on getting another playoff spot along with being possible cup contenders this season WHICH I can see happening with Minnesota, maybe not on a whim, but it's very likely, given them - they're just too busy with sustaining injuries at times honestly; there's so much there that has the potential to happen later in his playing-career but ion wanna ponder ab that rn.

➜ i could be loud and wrong about alot of stuff said here but idgaf much, ok ! Majority of it is because Vancouver is not a main / prioritized team 4 me nor do i care for them.

Note: skimmed alot over this video in particular so, i took some parts of the conversation that screams "this moment crucially matters and that's what we'll make it with an elite defenseman on our team now."

•ㅤ"Uhm, But like I said, when when you have a player, of Quinn's Caliber comes available, and you have an opportunity to get him, there's a cost to it. And you know we—we're willing to do what it takes."

➜ All of the rest is from Bill Guerin's press conference as noted previously, atleast ones that i seriously redeem as important — especially with how Guerin spoken about Q. Hughes.

•ㅤfirst Reporter's question to Guerin which dives into talking about the Four nations process last year with him, talked about maybe being ready — not, we talked, uh almost every day through that process, so we got to know each other - "What's Quinn's reaction to you just talking to him."

ㅤ◦ㅤexact timestamp is 9:06 to 9:30.

•ㅤ"all, all he wants to do is win, and and be apart of something special. So, He's really excited."

•ㅤsame question above was still being talked about.

ㅤ◦ㅤexact timestamp is 9:45.

•ㅤ"He'll see how we operate and uh, how that group of guys operates, and you know, from guys operates, and um you know from the leadership to Spurge to Moose to Kirill  (Kaprizov) on down. It's a, It's a really good bunch of guys and they play for each other, and i think that's what he's looking for."

Honorable mention of another timestamp &. Another source from tumblr.

•ㅤ12:13 to 12:27 - Question: "Why do you feel like this was the right moment to kind of push all the chips in and acquire a guy like Hughes?"

ㅤ◦ㅤ"Because it's Quinn Hughes and if you wait for the like I — I don't know what the right moment is, but if you wait for it, you're going to miss it."

ㅤ◦ㅤ"Rutherford got indication 1.5 years ago it was unlikely Quinn would sign here long term. Became more clear in camp"

ㅤ◦ㅤ"Rutherford clarified that the indication he got 1.5 years ago was more of a feeling than anything else. But it was communicated to them this off-season by Quinn‘s camp that it was highly unlikely he would extend here.  #Canucks"

What Minnesota traded for QH43 is listed below.

•ㅤMarco Rossi (center)
•ㅤLiam Öhgren (left winger)
•ㅤZeev Buium (defenseman)
•ㅤdraft pick, 2026 Round 1

i have no actual commentary about this section but i thought it might help to get a better grasp onto what was acquired for him in-return.

Incredibly iffy 'nd mediocre baseline for this. as I've said before, not totally educated on the Canucks + their fanbase so what i learn about this is from Tumblr (and a bit of Twitter) with various Canucks' fans in those tags who know what they're talking about.

Guerin's press conference just gives me a fuckton of thoughts + indications about how Quinn was treated in Vancouver under that organization &. The front office. Yeah, i think that raps it up for now

Ok now I'm going to watch leafs' hockey bc Jesus fuck did this take forever.

yikes- i think that's one of the biggest reasons van hasn't gotten far historically (besides for the one year when they lost and the city rioted)- but like front office has been historically horrible for them, (apparently there's no real practice facility but i might've misheard that), and yeah they just suck.

if i may, i'd like to compare them (in the loosest of terms) with the toronto blue jays. front office is loaded asf, but guys don't like coming up to canada (van is widely known as just being rainy and sucky)--- now, after the finals trip, you'd assume the front office would put in some work and build nice facilities + really try to run it back (bcz that run got sm support from fans---) but they didn't really. reverse: the blue jays saw all this fucking support and now they're going all in, front office is giving the fans reason to be excited. van is the opposite - despite going to the finals, they never went super far with it even tho they should've!!

anyways i'm not super educated on van's front office / fans either, but like honestly they've just had a sad time there.

when van drafted quinn, they should've started the rebuild right then, but they didn't! they only wanted a 'partial' rebuild, but that falls through so easily, and it DID! and now they're trying for a full rebuild based on the return, which they should try not to fuck up this time around.
