What made you start shipping UroIchi? Was it a specific scene?
Not really, honestly! I shipped them from the very first chapter.
I think there was a handful of things that led to it. Part of it was definitely the ship hitting a lot of my likes — Size differences, monsterfucking, enemies to lovers, possession, rougher pairings… It was like a collection of all the things I love tied up with a little bow!
Other than that, I think being into SukuIta in JJK influenced it as well. It’s a similar dynamic type with the “demon inside you” trope, so seeing a ship similar definitely sparked some things in my brain…
But there’s also just how it stands on its own. There’s something really romantic about Ichi being the only one that was able to capture Uroro, about Uroro turning him into something impossible. The two of them defy their world’s logic and rules just by existing as Witch and Majik, and I find that really interesting! Plus, Uroro compliments a part of Ichi that is less “human”, in a sense; The part of him that learned to survive like an animal in the woods. The concept of him being similar in some ways to a Majik and Uroro beginning to like him for that is something that really scratches my brain the right way.
And I think one of the biggest things is that, even if he has a strong moral compass, Ichi is not innocent or all good-hearted by any means. He shows himself to be sadistic and battle-thirsty, which is something that Uroro can match with his own bloodlust. They’re two sides of a coin, one constantly indulging in his desire to kill and hunt whilst the other holds himself back unless the hunt is necessary.
I guess I just really like the dichotomy!
