I really like your KH art! What are your thoughts on Xion as a character? She's my fav ^__^
this is a long one, i apologize.. textwall time
one of my favorite characters growing up! seasalt trio's always going to be my favorite out of the triads in KH, although the others are a close second and third. i don't really care to publically dismiss a lot of fandom characterization as i'd like to keep to myself on opinions strictly, but xion's a pretty misinterpreted character a lot of the time and i think that's especially why she was so infamous right after the release of 358/2 days.. i think i'll keep my thoughts strictly to talking about days, rather than teetering near KH3 and it's scenes of xion. (that topics for another day)
BUT i've always seen the vision laid out since i was young! being such a fanatic about axel and roxas prior to days, i actually didn't really feel threatened by her presence and only fell in love harder with the narrative. she's an especially tragic character secluded to one single spinoff, yet you're constantly forced to face so many reminders of her lack of presence.. an empty spot, an extra sharing of ice cream, plans to go as all three (but there's only two of us, right?)
xion's a lot more bubbly in the manga, and she can be quite cute and silly in the game, too! the manga isn't exactly a perfect adaptation, but i'm extremely fond of it, so it's a good addition to me full of new perspectives / unique scenarios. however, i do especially appreciate her more muted personality in the game, and i absolutely adored how hollow and empty her voice sounded in a lot of her deliveries. i think it serves a lot to her character, being that her worth is such a controversy to even be debated. there's no point in becoming attached to her, nor should you worry about how she feels, right?
and xion has an incredible amount of anxiety about proving her worth to exist alongside the ranks, terrified of not having a purpose, terrified of just being useless to the organization. she's incredibly tense about this since the early part of the game, and i think the crushing part to learn is that her worry is.. justified. she's taking from roxas, and she's taking from sora too. it's a pain for riku to look at her, and her existence only serves to benefit the organization- namine affirms that xion cannot exist if she wants sora to wake up. and the thing is, xion can't even be selfish and say no. she wants so badly to live alongside axel and especially roxas, but she's only sabotaging them further if she tries to play dumb... ahhh, i get so choked up about it lol
xion's piece is never considered by others. the majority organization is disappointed by her existence and look down upon her, because no one takes her worth seriously. simply because she's a puppet, she's worth even less than a nobody. controversial to say, while axel and roxas absolutely do care for xion, they are honestly complicit in this issue - in another fashion of it, anyways.
axel's controlling, and always one to think he's in the right. he places his reasons for his actions higher than the consideration of others, and it stretches to xion. roxas can't stand to lose xion, because he doesn't want to let go of her. the one choice xion absolutely wants to make on her own, and her own friends can't even abide by it. it's because they love her, and they don't want her to disappear - but it's also another act of suffocating her voice. at least, in my eyes, anyways... i think axel is quite unfair to xion (and roxas, but. Another day.), but his justification for how he treats her is because he's trying to look out for her. because he cares.
ughhhh. ughhhh. it's a really depressing tragedy. i think a really crushing part about it is that the way this story turns out is completely inevitable. xion is a girl that was doomed from the start and i think that's why so many people cry for her, because no matter how far she's come alongside roxas and axel, it amounted to nothing. nobody remembers her, there is (or was) no proof of her existence, and it was written to be impossible for her exist alongside roxas without hurting him. IT'S UNFAIR...!! but at the same time, i understood how intentionally cruel of a fate it was.. i used to draw her a lot as a teenager, but i've also begun to fixate on a lot of other portions of the series. i think because days is one of my favorite entries though, i'll have to come back eventually.. and xion will be adored so lovingly like she deserves. She is truly a special girl.
On a lighthearted note. pluto's a xion's best friend. good puppy
