I normally hate talking about ibuki's canon personality but after seeing people's reactions to him placing high on that disliked character poll i think a lot of people forget that while yes some people hate ibuki because they blame him others just don't like his personality.
In a way it can be likened to what happens with jp, cn, and kr fans who defend and "like" ibuki but most likely haven't read stories he was in so they don't know how he acts. He's attacked two characters, he shows up late tot things like practices, during the prsk connect live he was doing stuff during the time where ra*bits were talking (something that was called out by fans of multiple units btw), and probably more but idk i stopped keeping up with most things hes in a while ago.
If you (not you youko but you know what I mean) like characters who are annoying that's totally valid but I also thing the pity defense he has that seems to be present in all parts of the fanbase do need to look into the character they're defending because 1. they wouldn't be doing this if he wasn't added to akatsuki and 2. had he not been added to akatsuki he would have been a mid tier popularity character who is carried by his va and design because his personality sucks
I think people voted Ibuki in that disliked characters poll on the Eng side because of what he represents rather than his actual "behavior" in the Stories, but yeah his personality and archetype for lack a better of word is divisive in nature. I'd jokingly say it's another one of his Rinne-isms lol. I don't think Ibuki's "personality" really sucks as characters of his ilk have become popular before (see the aforementioned big brother), but I think he's exceptionally poorly written and very unlikeable for that reason. A character like Ibuki can be done right, but it's a balancing act for sure. He kinda reminds me of Ouma Kokichi in a weird way. When written properly, his actions and attitude would remain a controversy, but he could still garner a dedicated fandom for his personality. It's all about execution. Canon just fails Ibuki on nearly every front.
