Honestly if we gave them the benefit of the doubt (ugh) that they aren't mimicking nazi uniforms, why would they do something so suspicious in the middle of an imperialist subplot? One that they themselves acknowledge and try to kick into the ground again and again? Isn't that something to condemn too? Aren't people going to condemn the imperialism am I going insane
It's definitely mimicry. There is not a doubt in mind that they pulled up SS uniforms for reference while designing those costumes. They just took a few creative liberties, as usual. Like I said last year in my thread on the subject, the imperial Japanese uniforms AKATSUKI has been put in before were also not exact replicas of any real uniform. But they featured enough elements that they were obviously intended to represent them. This is a very similar situation.
