if we're talking about ny and vivid street differences i think a fun point is the way the group of ages is presented. the new york musicians we've met and know about stray far younger. the people on vivid street are all older. col owner is a granny in her 80s, crawl green's also watched radder grow up. while people such as alan curtis are mentioned to be in their 20s.
even the friendly rival characters, arasouma, tatsuya are older than vbs (albeit by only 3-5 years), while the white kids are all implied to be about the same age as vbs.
though i do think that the americans are a litttle older based on the whole thematics of them meeting radder but the age differences between vivid street and nyc is so important. vbs are always looking up to people back in vivid street and i think them being older helps to propagate the need for obsession in music as there's a drag towards the fact if you don't put your whole life into it, you fall behind because all these people have had the time and experience to give their everything to music and reap what it gives back. whereas in ny everyones younger, and everyones a lot more welcoming and build their relationships on trust first, fight second. rivalry looks a little different on this side of the world if u compare how the original npcs were introduced in the story vs illys/embers. the white rivals were inviting while npcs like arata were Definitely not. it really helps flesh out ny as a different place from home
