honestly i take anything not touched by Guillermo Del Toro with a grain of salt, the comic just happened to be really nicely timed with my current breakdown so it made me really sad to be reminded how of how badly pacific rim and newton geiszler have been bastardized by almost every "canon" post the first movie. uprising i really only care for the angst and even then i kinda only take the bits i like, because im very protective of newt specifically and hate the way he was portrayed in that film.

but to be entirely frank, when i love characters, i kinda tend to run with them and treat them like my own ocs. i'm aware other people aren't fans of it, but it's how i show my love. i don't need canon, newt and hermann are so totally fine and if hermann DID electrocute newt, it was a wild elaborate sex act that no one in the shatterdome will ever unsee, lol.
