saw u ranting before about dark themes on fics particularly incest themed but now jay writes one, how's that for u? Have u changed your perceptions yet? Hmm
hello. i hope this isn’t rate bait, but i’ll answer this as clearly as i can.
yes, i did post about this before. at the time, i was very quick to judge stories that included dark themes such as rape and incest. since then, some of my friends, who are also writers, helped me better understand how fiction and storytelling work.
i’ve learned to practice “don’t like, don’t read,” and i’ve come to appreciate how important tags, warnings, and author’s notes are. they allow readers to avoid content they’re uncomfortable with, which i find very helpful.
while my perspective has evolved, my core opinion remains the same. i am still uncomfortable with these themes, and they are not something i personally enjoy reading. however, i no longer view them as inherently problematic as long as the writer does not condone these acts in real life and provides proper warnings.
i even chose to read some of these works myself to better understand how they were written and why other readers engage with them. although i still do not enjoy these themes, the experience gave me a broader understanding of fiction and its purpose.
i apologize for not approaching the topic with more nuance before, which led me to tweet those opinions. that said, i do not regret sharing my thoughts at the time, because they reflected what i genuinely believed then.
i’m still learning, and i’m grateful to my friends for helping me better understand the different themes and complexities that fiction can explore.
