hello ! do you have any tips on studying korean ?

hi!! everyone learns differently but i hope these will be helpful:

  1. watch and listen to as much media as you can. this is probably the easiest one and i recommend doing it as you’re learning. watch shows, dramas, movies; if you’re just starting out, i found that reading the lyrics out loud is very helpful when it comes to pronunciation! it also helps getting your brain accustomed to certain sounds and words over time; by the time i reached like maybe intermediate korean level i noticed that i was able to understand a good amount even without having studied the individual words themselves.
  2. try to learn at least 2-3 new grammar rules every few days. take some time to understand how the sentence structures work, try to come up with sentences by yourself even if you only know a little bit of vocabulary. for people who aren’t used to how korean/japanese is structured (subject-object-verb) repetition is key!!
  3. once you think you’ve got the basics down, try testing yourself with topik mock tests online! topik I only has reading and listening sections, and they can be very helpful in identifying the areas you need improvement in.

i hope this helps somewhat!! this was how i self learned korean :”) writing and speaking are obviously the harder ones to master, but for speaking it can come naturally as long as you get comfortable with the language itself and how it feels when you speak it. writing korean at a higher level is a different story but usually you won’t need it unless you’re considering doing academic korean (which was what i did rip). have fun and good luck 🥺🍀
