Ngl that self-fulfilling prophecy BREAKS my heart bc now these excellent black characters are exempt from typical creative fandom exploration, and any new fans (who doesn't even need to like sammick) get scared away from Sinners entirely because of how aggresive and policing these antis are. Im not into sammick as hardcore as i was before, but the hype (for Sinners at least) does feel short-lived. There are so few people who keep the fandom alive (by chatting or making fanworks) and Sammick shippers are consistently the most active in doing this yet we also got consistently attacked and treated like shit. Sometimes i also think to myself that im sick of drawing sammick because these assholes dont deserve to even lay their eyes on my art but that means losing to their bullying and thats not gonna happen :) (i moved for another reason)
Hell, even the discourse regarding canon ships were already very prevalent back in the hype, some straight up loudly shamed others just because they liked specific characters and it makes for a very unwelcoming, tense fandom situation.
No wonder Sinners fandom stay small.

Still, im happy and grateful for the loud support and love sammick shippers or deaddove sinner shippers give to me. If not for them, i wouldve bailed from the start lol

Its insane how many assholes are jumping on the hate-train!! Even people who admitted they never even watched Sinners fucking cast stones to sammick bc we're seen as the black sheep and easy target for dickheads who wanna feel good about their morality but still indulge in bullying. im not even in this fandom anymore (kinda) but i keep being dragged just bc i used to draw sammick a lot and shared them WITHIN the shipper community. The amount of supposedly deaddove shippers (who even used to chat with me and still following me!) that are against sammick bc they suddenly lean into "actually fiction IS reality in your case, and liking the Thing means you're endorsing the Thing irl" is more than a few people and its mind boggling. The abundance display of hypocrisy, cherry-picking, hateful behavior and straight up LYING from sammick antis are nothing like i personally experience and it's tiring as fuck to see the same bullshit get regurgitated in the tag. I still like sammick of course but my experience with sammick antis made my fandom stress tolerance very low now, i might have blocked strangers who probably just jested with me bc i dont need to have another shitty time with shitty people. Sorry for the rant, i just.... realky fucking hate sammick antis and hyprocritical deaddove shippers 💀

Black bottoms deserve to be celebrated yes! and that means also indulging them in toxic/dark fantasy and uplifting black deaddove shippers :)

i feel more neutral towards Pearline. Her pale, pale moon performance is too captivating for me to slander her but in general I dont feel touched with the canon ships. they're all het and problematic in ways i dont care much (Annie being the perfect all understanding patient wife of Smoke who bailed on her for years would piss me off if I think about it for too long) and Stack/Mary just dont strike anything in me. always roll my eyes whenever a het ship puts the woman (FORCES) the woman to be in excessively understanding, doting position.
Pearline being cougar is actually more interesting to think about but canon het ships in general are never able to make me feel anything remotely as intense as my non-canon ships.
Sinners having freaky characters are par for the course, but i do understand treating canon ships differently than non-canon especially in a movie with this far-reaching audience. i guess i can't dislike pearline/sammie more because of irony; they used to be the getcha ship to throw sammick shippers off but now they're revealed to be problematic as well, it just tickles me lol
