do you roleplay when playing single-player rpgs?

yeah, to a degree! when i wrote my Get More Chuuni piece i considered talking about my time with Trails in the Sky the 3rd, but ultimately cut it for focus, but I had meant to talk a little bit about the way that something like a JRPG can allow me to step into a bit of a performance. it's obviously more up front if the character you're piloting is more wholly your own, like in tabletop or something like an MMO (one day i will play FFXIV... one day) but all the same I find myself thinking "what would Kevin be doing in this circumstance?" When I got to the end of Trails in the Sky SC, I made sure to compose my parties so that the characters with the greatest emotional connection the the particular Ouroboros members I was running into would be present. The game rewards you for doing this with additional dialogue. I love things like that. I love making the final blow go to someone who I think would be invested in the fight. I love using slightly sub-optimal S-Crafts so my characters can have their flashy cool moments where they turn the tables on the people who hurt them, or what have you. Little things!
